2025 Draft lottery

What kind of sicko was watching all 4.5 hours of the draft? (Me).
I tried to put it on my phone driving back from Huntington Library but fiance (understandably) vetoed it. So only got to see the the mid round on. Then when Kings traded down this was me talking about how in 2024 not only was Greentree still there but they picked up Carter George.

She does find the draft a little interesting though. It’s timing.

There’s no reason the 1st round couldn’t move as quickly as the 2nd round.
The problem with the time is we have 32 teams. I did the timing on the 1st 3 picks. #1 took 3 minutes, #2 took over 11 minutes, and #3 took almost 9 minutes. That’s too long. Every team should have 5 minutes to make their pick, then 30 seconds to announce it. Except for #1, which should have 1 minute to make their pick, if even that. That gets you close to 3 hours. Unless there are trades, which add time.

For me the problem isn’t the time. It’s the fact that this is every hockey kid’s dream to be drafted & have the experience of going up on stage with all the team’s scouts & brass. And none of these kids got to experience that. They went up with Gary Bettman & some B list celebrity. And some didn’t even get that since the person announcing was also remote. I thought during the 2020 draft how much it sucked for those players not to have that experience. But at least there was a pandemic. What was their excuse this time? They didn’t want to spend the money to fly their whole crew out to the draft city? If that’s the reason that’s pretty lame. What’s worse is that half the GM’s are former players who know what that experience was like. And they voted for this crap. They need to go back to the original way, tighten the time up of course, and not let GM’s decide how the draft is run. Because they screwed it up. Also, LA needs another shot at hosting the draft since we weren’t given a decent chance to host it.
