Very, very, VERY interested in seeing how Morgan plays in this going forward.
Kirkman's whole "Daryl is definitely straight, guys! Don't worry!" really left a bad taste in my mouth.
It just makes me feel like they're pandering to homophobic internet douchebags who complained about the possibility that he may be gay. Who cares if he's gay or straight or asexual? He's awesome.
Handled poorly? Certainly. But the show is the number one show for a reason. So like it or not, the blue states factor in. And you have to figure turning Daryl might have cost them some revenue. This thing is a machine to print money right now so, yeah, I am sure AMC weighed in heavily and Kirkman is very much a company man...sooooooooo. I get it I guess. It shouldn't matter, but it does. I find it strange that there seems to be a black quota on the show as well. Tyrese comes in, T-dog gets the chop. Noah comes in...Bob is on the BobBQ. If I were a black castmember I would keep eyes on new hirings. All in all though, it's just a show, not really a battleground for diversity arguments. But yeah...Kirkman probably should have measured his words a little more carefully.
I loved how quick Kirkman was to say "oh yeah we will be introducing a well known gay from the comic very, very soon!" Like that made up for his brutish handling?? Lol!Totally agree with you on this, I just wish he hadn't been so quick to say "yeah, he's straight!" Something along the lines of "I had mentioned the possibility of it, but we haven't given much thought to his sexuality or giving him a love interest because he's a crossbow-toting badass and it totally doesn't matter at all."
But that may just be too much to ask
100% agree with you on the black quota too. It would sound so ridiculous if it wasn't so obviously formulaic at this point. Tyreese and Sasha better watch their backs.

I don?t know if you watched The Talking Dead last night, but Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman went out of his way to explain that Daryl is straight because of all that hubbub where he mentioned in the letters section of the comics that there had been talk of having the character be gay at one point. Does it amuse and confuse you as to why people are so invested in Daryl Dixon?s sexual orientation?
[Laughs] It?s funny that you brought that up because he caught of a lot of grief for even mentioning anything. Sometimes stories just get blown out of proportion. Whatever they gave me to do, I would happily do it and I don?t think it matters one way or another his sexual orientation. He?s an honest, badass dude and he has a lot of heart to him and it doesn?t really matter. It?s so funny when you meet people and their reaction to this and to that ? and believe me they go from all the way far left to all the way far right. I didn?t really address that when it came out because it doesn?t matter. And whatever they give me to do, I would have done. But it?s kind of funny watching him cover his tracks a bit. A lot of times stories do get blown way out of proportion.
