All Things:AMC television

So I'm all caught up with Turn minus the most recent episode.

I like it. It's not amazing or anything, and I think it could use a little more actual spying, but it's not a bad show.

I just hope they are smart enough to keep MacFayden's Queens Ranger on. Him and the bearded dude who is second to Talmadge are the best parts of the show. Simcoe is a little 'mustache twirling' as far as bad guys go...but yeah, it's watchable.

Nice turn of events on Mad Men for the finale, or whatever. The show is always ace when they focus on office politics and new business acquisition

it was ok. i liked some things, kind of didn't really care for others.
i get that the moon landing was a major piece of history but focusing a chunk of the finale on it wasn't really what i would call interesting. they've touched on riots, race and assassinations but never really had a bunch of the characters focusing a large part of their attention on it during the last 1/3 or 1/4 of the show before taking a year long hiatus. not that i remember, at least. i know people probably did gather around the tv set and watched it happen, but there's lots of things that they infer happens and the watcher is aware of it. this was pretty drawn out.
then to have bert die right after watching it was weird.
not to mention the closing scene where his ghost is show tuning in the office. it's not until i read up on it later that i found out the actor who plays him was known for performing like that in the 60s. that's not something the average viewer would know while watching though so it was kind of weird.

i liked the acquisition and what it might lead to in the 2nd half next year. roger was a boss. his character was great to watch all season. i'd have to say episodes 3-6 were the best.

Gonna sound nitpicky, but the "previews for next weeks' episode" have always been comically bad for Mad Men. I know Weiner is such a weirdo/stickler about any future info on the show being leaked...but those mini trailers are so worthless, they look bad.

In other news, get off my lawn!

I kind of wish the show was about MacFayden's character, actually. He's fantastic.

Agree wholeheartedly. It looks like they are setting up his arc nicely for next season. If there is going to be a next season. So far, I have heard nothing. AMC isn't really forthcoming with either ratings or plans. Hope it gets renewed, it started out kinda meh and picked up nicely. God, Simcoe is a prick.

Western Epic The Son Being Adapted As Series At AMC - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, who developed Netflix’s Hemlock Grove, is working on The Son. There’s certainly enough material to mount a rather long-running series (thought as a self contained mini, it could probably be pretty epic as well). The story spans generations and follows three time periods in the McCullough family.

The first, Eli, is kidnapped by Indians in the mid 19th Century and grows up under the tutelage of the Comanche tribe. His son, Peter, is sensitive and has an adverse reaction to ambition and bloodshed, much to his family’s chagrin. And in present day, Jeannie strives to hold her own in a still male-dominated oil and cattle industries.

TURN Renewed for Season 2 by AMC

I'm happy with that. Slow starting, but likeable enough, and it picked up nicely towards the end.

The ratings for Turn haven’t been through the roof, but they’ve been solid enough. On the other hand, AMC’s other new drama, Halt and Catch Fire, has not been faring as well. The show had promise with its intriguing premise and talented cast, but it’s thus far failed to really take off (its Mad Men/Breaking Bad ripoff vibe is certainly off-putting).

Sweeps were over in May so isn't HACF already in ratings trouble due to airing in June? :)

Robert Kirkman teases 'answers' coming in Walking Dead season 5 premiere | Blastr

“There’s a lot going on with Terminus,” Kirkman said while promoting his new comic Outcast on Entertainment Weekly radio this week. “In our premiere episode of season 5 we’re going to give a ton of answers of who the people of Terminus are, what they’re doing, why they’re doing it, what’s going on with them. And by the end of that episode you’re going to have a much better understanding of what’s going on with them and why they’re so important to the show. Oh, and Daryl dies.
