‘Hell On Wheels’ Common, Showrunner Reveal Why Character Departed | Deadline

Ok, that answers that...

‘The way it came together was Rashid called me last year just before Christmas,” explains Wirth (citing the performer’s real name, Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr.). “This was after we had wrapped Season 3 and we were on hiatus. He told me that he thought maybe it was time for him to leave the show.”

“I got to say it wasn’t the easiest thing for me to do, but I have a lot of aspects to my career that I wasn’t able to nurture being up in Calgary for so long every year filming Hell On Wheels,” Common says of the decision. “Acting is very, very important to me, but music is very important to me too.”

“This is a full-time job and it’s also a seasonal job, and the seasons of touring are basically the spring and the summertime when we shoot the show,” says Wirth. He was speaking from the set of Hell On Wheels’ current season with the Canadian West substituting for mostly lawless 1867 Wyoming. “So, for three years, Rashid had to put his music commitments on hold.”

Though Common has far from given up on his acting career, once the decision to exit the series was made, the multi-tasker jumped right back into his music. To that end, Common’s 10th studio album came out this summer and he’s been playing live across the country, including a show tomorrow in Las Vegas.

See Smoking Aces. Hell, you should just see that movie anyway, but I was excited when I saw him on the show. He will definitely be missed. Bohannon sobbing at the end was a gut punch. He needs a win and bad.

Sweet christ Hell on Wheels has been off the charts. Last episode was 8, and I am not sure but it's got to be 10-12 episodes(hoping for 12). That slippery Swede. And Greg Henry as the big cheese Mormon really was inspired. Man, such a damned good season of a terrific show. Bohannon done got his guns back...this will get fun.

Here I am again, a Monday morning and me waxing about Hell on Wheels. Just exemplary stuff. A great hero, a gamut of villains, and a lot of folks straddling the line. That episode was waaaaaaay too short @ 40 some odd minutes. Man what a great season.

It's a little early for Negan isn't it?

They already jumped that shark by showing Lucille in some of their print ads. I think he is closer than anyone thinks.

Oh and Durand could work very well but agree with Hamm being the first choice ...

What the Hell on Wheels AMC. A hiatus???? Till November 20th???? What gives. Can't be more than 3 or 4 episodes left, which is a really odd placement of a break. And, if you are gonna break, you would assume it would be like Walking Dead where you are dark during the holiday season. HAve not read ANYTHING concerning this strange decision...will research, you can count on that. Meanwhile notbob, or anyone else...if you know or read anything, please don't be shy in sharing.

That being said, WOW. Wasn't expecting THAT to happen. Dark dark choice. And yeah, the character really didn't have much going on...but still...a kid? WOW. And that other thing. Well dip me in dog ****!!!! This show gets stronger every episode and I really can't wait to see what else is gonna happen. But I guess I have to don't I? Bastards.

Hell on Wheels

Hell on Wheels will be stepping aside for the next four Saturdays, making way for AMC Fearfest throughout October and a special Rambo marathon on November 1. So this gives you plenty of time to catch up on the first ten episodes of Season 4, now available on amc.com, before the final three episodes begin on Saturday, November 8

Ok...November 8th not the 20th. Still, that just seems p*ss poor planning on AMC's part. They should have started the season earlier. Having it on hold for 4 weeks for the last 3 episodes...not exactly momentum building. Unless they are satisfied with the lowish but steady ratings of the loyal watchers and don't really care about growing those numbers. Just an odd decision.

TWD was right on the mark tonight. Great start Gimple! And the reveal post credits was absolutely awesome! I thought it was a Conan spoof at first ...
