Misery loves company but ‘The Walking Dead’ is pushing it

So why am I still excited about Westeros but not about zombie-infested Virginia? Both display a casual violence towards their main cast. Both are damn near nihilistic in their views on humanity. Both toy with the emotions of the viewer using fake-outs and cliffhangers. The only difference? The Walking Dead promises a never-ending sea of misery. As an open-ended series, there is no goal. No end point. Introducing Negan is just another level of fresh hell for The Group to brace themselves again. AMC’s President of Original Programming Joel Stillerman has talked about Robert Kirkman’s approach to The Walking Dead universe as someone who “loved zombie movies, but felt like the worst part of them was always the ending. You always had to manufacture some ending.”

Go home. You're drunk.

Seriously, watch any reality tv. We are Idiocracy. Of course people watch for the nihilism and death. It's the only way some people feel anything. Besides, bad guys are always more fun. White hats got rules to follow.

I think I read that they might pick up where they left off with Ofelia's papa. Whether that means he's alive or not in the traditional sense.

Anyone happen to catch who captured Ofelia?

spoiler alert...Dayton Callie

I definitely recognized him as a "that guy".

I give them an amazing amount of credit for managing to keep the identity of Sunday's victim a secret with less than a week to go, as far as I know. I will be avoiding all random internet comment sections until then (some jacktard posted the big Star Wars spoiler in Twitter comments to a sports message), and total media blackout for the three hours between the east coast broadcast and ours.

So yeah, JD, no posting links to spoiler articles where the spoiler is in the web address of the article.

Eugene should have been the new MacGyver.

?The Walking Dead? Used Body Doubles On Set To Hide Who Died During Season 7

In 3days, 8hrs we will finally know. And I couldn't be more excited. This is the joy of a good cliffhanger. Us old folks used to enjoy em all the time, but in this spoiler culture anything less than instant gratification is whined upon. It will have even more of an...excuse me...impact, because of all the delicious waiting and speculating. I can't wait to see what happens, to read this thread for the days afterward, etc...

Kudos to the crew of TWD for doing a superhuman job of trying to hide the outcome. I have heard that the spoiler MAY be out there, but even if it were, I wouldn't believe it until I see it.

Please be respectful, but everyone realize...that when the moment happens after the west coast feed starts, there are no spoiler alerts on this thread. Can't watch till the next day...you better avoid ALLLLLLLL media including this board. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Well can say that they didn't take the easy way out by just killing a lesser character. Was not expecting two and they followed the comic with the death just to shake things up. I really thought that Rick or Carl were loosing a hand. That was a great tease. That was a brutal episode.

Spent some time processing it all. My contempt for AMC and Kirkman is complete as they are trying to milk the proverbial cash cow for as long as they can. I am not sure I am going to watch any more. Unlike truly great television, like Game of Thrones, I am not sure Kirkman or Gimple know how to finish this story. A great story, as has been stated by the GoT show writers/runners, has to have a beginning, middle and end. I am just not sure how the TWD show runners are going to end this show. It just feels like they will continue to try and up the ante/up what they have done so far with character deaths that have no meaning.

Don't get me wrong. Morgan as Negan has been nothing short of amazing. That guy is something else as an actor and has never gotten enough credit for his abilities. But the way they toyed with viewers all the way back to the cliff hanger of last season - it is almost like they are laughing at the viewers. And I am a bit tired of it.

Oh and can we talk about the commercial interruptions of last night? Man AMC has the highest rated cable show out there and they know it! Milk, milk, milk ...

Ok. Like Hardwick said...the way you feel is ok. But specifically? I am conflicted about last night's events. Abraham, a very colorful character portrayed by a longtime favorite actor of mine...
And Glenn, who we all watched grow up...

BUT, they stuck to the comic. After preaching they wanted to do things differently.

BUT BUT...it was a well scripted(Gimple) and well directed(Nicotero) and Negan's breaking of Rick was a master class. I think we all felt the helplessness. Couldn't really have asked for more.

As far as ending things...Kirkman is a comic book writer. In the worst sense of the term. In his mind this never ends. And Gimple, much to his credit, has maximized things to the point that even in the seventh season, the show still evolves despite the restrictions of Kirkman's iron fist.

I don't think it's fair to blame the show for commercials. Business. It's like car insurance and taxes...you grin and bear it.

The issue that they are going to have is where to go from here.

Granted, they are going to have Prick and company under the yoke for awhile. But, the Kingdom is already being introduced, so instead of letting the saviours breathe they are already providing an out.

Replacing Negan will be next to impossible. We watched the 2 hr road before special prior to watching live, and the Governor seemed so clumsily handled in comparison. If he had come post Negan, well, it would have been laughable. Look, this show will continue until the ratings start really outweighing the costs. That's the simple truth. I trust Gimple to continue stewarding things. He has proven himself the most capable of existing under Kirkman and still putting a definable stamp on the show.

Game of Thrones is like comparing apples to oranges. GoT is a really long miniseries, while TWD is a TELEVISION SHOW. Game is lean, prime...every moment has importance. TWD is a device to sell ad space and merchandising while the ratings hold. You have to judge it that way. Is it still worth watching? If not, then, by all means, stop. But if you are simply frustrated based on projections...well, I don't know if you are looking at it the right way.

Suppose Game of Thrones ****s up the ending. Will that have invalidated all that came before? Live in the moment brother. And, last night, that moment, was worked for about as much tension and heartache that a weekly tv show could possibly shoot for.

My humble opinion is that the episode would have had 20 times the impact if it had been the season finale. I was too prepared for it. I didn't shed one tear, and I feel like they cheated me out of the experience of truly mourning those 2 great characters. Suck my nuts, AMC. I should have been balled up in the corner over Glenn, but instead my reaction was, "Well, there it is. Yikes!" Yes, it was great television and JDM is amazing. There's just something very wrong about feeling more sadness seeing Steven Yeun choke up on The Talking Dead than I felt while watching the actual episode. Is it just me? Did everyone else get gut punched while I sat there with just the slightest tickle in my belly button?
