The Shield finale, 3 years later - HitFix.com

"The Shield" finale is, to my mind, one of the best ever for any TV drama, and maybe the best, period. I don't especially need to see the continuing adventures of Vic Mackey, but the finale did raise some interesting possibilities and leave some wiggle room for a longer epilogue if everyone found the time, money and interest to do it.

To me, there has never been a better show. The Shield blew open television and what kind of stories could be told. It's the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath/Kiss Alive of cable network television.

I disagree. I'm still enjoying it immensely.

Assume you are talking about AHS...what's so good about it? Immensely? Why so? the reveal on the rubber man was (unless there is more to it) kinda pointless. It just keeps meandering and the slow reveal that propelled the initial episodes has given way to the most vague suggestions that don't really add up to much.

I agree that there isn't a whole hell of a lot going on plot-wise, but for me it feels like build-up towards something. And it's just been fun.

I will hang in hoping for a good conclusion but the last 2 episodes were a chore to sit through. The only thing even remotely interesting in last weeks episode was Kate Mara's over-the-top angry sex ghost. Other than that it's just been boring.

FX Announces Midseason Premiere Dates for JUSTIFIED, ARCHER and New Animated Series UNSUPERVISED

LOS ANGELES, November 28, 2011 FX, basic cable’s leader for scripted programming year-round, has announced release dates for two of its returning hits, as well as a brand new animated comedy series.

FX opens the new year with the return of the Emmy Award?-winning hit drama Justified on January 17, and will continue to run Tuesdays at 10 PM ET/PT. Starring Timothy Olyphant as “U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens,” Justified is based on the works of crime novelist Elmore Leonard, including Leonard’s short story Fire in the Hole. The end of Season 2 brought about the end of the Bennett family’s hold over Harlan County and the return of Raylan’s old nemesis/friend Boyd Crowder to the criminal life. This season, Boyd and his crew will find they aren’t the only ones making a play to rule the Harlan underworld. Now Raylan finds himself facing off against dirty politics, hidden fortunes, a mysterious man named “Limehouse” and an enterprising and lethal criminal from the Motor City. Earlier this year, Justified was nominated for four Emmy Awards, with Margo Martindale taking home the statue for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Developed by Graham Yost, who also wrote the pilot, Justified is Executive Produced by Yost, Leonard, Fred Golan, Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly and Michael Dinner, who directed the pilot episode and others. Justified is produced by Sony Pictures Television and FX Productions.

FX’s acclaimed animated series Archer returns for its third season starting January 19 and will air Thursdays at 10 PM ET/PT. Archer is an animated, half-hour comedy that revolves around the International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS) and the lives of its employees. Although their work of espionage, reconnaissance missions, wiretapping and undercover surveillance is daunting and dangerous, every covert operation and global crisis is actually just another excuse for the ISIS staff to undermine, sabotage and betray each other for personal gain. Archer’s three part series “Heart of Archness,” which aired this past September, gained +26% in P18-49 (1.37 vs. 1.08 million), +34% in M18-49 (1.04 million vs. 775,000) and +12% in Total Viewers (1.72 vs. 1.53 million) over its second season.

FX will premiere its newest series with the animated comedy Unsupervised, which will premiere on January 19 at 10:30 ET/PT and will air immediately following Archer. Unsupervised is a comedy about optimistic best friends “Gary” and “Joel” navigating the harsh landscape of teenage life and trying to do what’s right without any parental guidance whatsoever. The series was created by and is executive produced by Rob Rosell, Scott Marder and David Hornsby, all who currently serve as writer/producers on FX’s hit comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It features an outstanding voice cast including Justin Long, Kristen Bell, Fred Armisen, Romany Malco, Kaitlin Olson and Alexa Vega, along with Rosell and Hornsby. Unsupervised is produced by FX Productions, in association with RCG Productions and Floyd County. RCG is the team of Sunny Executive Producers/Writers/Stars Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton. The deal for Unsupervised is the first series order for RCG as part of their overall deal with FX Productions. The series will be animated by Archer Executive Producers Adam Reed and Matt Thompson.

****, why is Justified S3 starting on 1/17, when the second season doesn't come out until 1/3?!?!

That gives me two weeks to get caught up and I don't know if I can make it.

can someone give me a breakdown on which shows are on when? i've been told this is the best network television going right now in terms of quality across the board. and i have yet to watch ANY of this stuff... and feel i should.

too late for sons, which is on Tuesday nights at 10, American Horror Story Wednesday nights at 10...as far as everything else check out post #126. Strongly suggest renting box sets of previous seasons of stuff because a lot of this is worth seeing from the beginning. Sadly Terriers/Lights out(R.I.P.) are not yet available. If you want to see the show that started it all, The Shield is relatively cheap in the complete box set. Always Sunny has box sets and is still on Thursday nights...I think that's most of it. Oh yeah, first couple seasons of Damages on box sets too. Nip/Tuck as well if you really want to go back.

And you should, you really should.

I'm not saying I invented the turtleneck. But I was the first person to realize its potential as a tactical garment. The tactical turtleneck! The... tactleneck!

Sorry, but I am trying to still like American Horror Story but it is just getting to be soooooooooo poorly thought out. Ok, so now for some reason the Black Dahlia was either killed or dumped on the property so it's a 'special guest' appearance by another ghost, sheesh. And I haven't finished the episode, but at least one other new ghost has been added. Guess what...who gives a rats ass? The husband is loathesome. So is the wife. Starting to soooooooo not care. And the scene where the basketballers notice the dumped body...and 90% of the dialogue is 'yo'. Wow, that's some writing. This show is LAZY and starting to get really boring. Gonna need a strong finish to salvage this one.

Ice Cube May Star in FX Revenge Series EYE FOR AN EYE

World, prepare yourself for two Ices on TV. Not content with letting Ice-T have the airwaves all to himself, Ice Cube is apparently eyeing his first series regular role on the drama Eye for an Eye. THR reports that Cube is producing the series, and is currently mulling over the prospect of starring in it himself. The show centers on “a veteran paramedic who after years responding to violent scenes takes matters into his own hands and turns into a vigilante out for revenge.” I get that the character will probably be hunting down murderers and wife-beaters, but will he also be getting revenge on car accident-causers and the like? (I sincerely hope so).
