All Things:Fx

Have to say that I love this season of American Horror Story. First one I've been watching throughout the season. Strong cast, sick and twisted writing. LOVE IT!

FX Orders New Drama TYRANT to Series for Summer 2014 Debut; Pilot Directed by David Yates | Collider

FX is adding a new drama series to its roster from Homeland producers Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff. The network announced today (via THR) that it has ordered Tyrant to series, scheduling it for a summer 2014 debut. The story revolves around an American family that is drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation, and producers aimed high when crafting the pilot. Ang Lee was initially signed on to direct the first episode, but he subsequently backed out citing exhaustion over the very long post-production and awards campaign process on Life of Pi. In his stead, producers nabbed Harry Potter director David Yates to helm the pilot.

Production on Tyrant will begin in earnest this coming March in Tel Aviv and the show will debut next summer alongside Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain. The cast for Tyrant includes Adam Rayner, Jennifer Finnigan, Ashraf Barhom, and Justin Kirk.

Ok...I'll bite.

Can't find a copy of it(trailer), but if you saw it during the Sons finale' or hell, even if you missed it, looks like Amy Reid(Crank) and Michael Rapaport(Prison Break and a ton o'other ****) are the new additions to JUSTIFIED. Love this show, so I cannot wait. Rapaport is a good actor, looks like he is playing some sorta hillfolk big bad. I'm in.

It’s not clear if Dale bears any relation to Boyd’s IQ-challenged chum Dewey Crowe. UPDATE: As one Justified-obsessed TVLine reader points out below, Dewy has previously spoken of having a relative named Dale — case closed!)

That explains Dewey Crowe featuring prominently in the trailer too. Nice.

Kurt Sutter and Brian Grazer Team up for FX Drama Pilot, THE BASTARD EXECUTIONER | Collider

Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy may be done for the year, but the creator/showrunner already has a project lined up once the biker drama series takes it’s final ride in the seventh season. Sutter is sticking with FX (and why wouldn’t he?) and teaming up with Brian Grazer to develop a pilot for the drama series, The Bastard Executioner. In keeping with Sutter’s dark and violent material, the series centers on one of King Edward III’s warrior knights whose soul is broken by war, but must pick up the sword when violence finds him once again. Sutter will pen the script with filming on the pilot slated to begin late next year when Sons of Anarchy wraps for good. Hit the jump for more.

kurt-sutter-the-bastard-executionerDeadline reports that The Bastard Executioner has been given a pilot order by FX, with Sutter, Grazer and Francie Calfo on as executive producers. Sutter kept his reaction simple, saying:

“I love the network. I love the world. I love the blood.”

FX Networks CEO John Landgraf had a bit more to say on the project and continuing the relationship with Sutter:

“[H]e has conceived a deep, provocative and historically precise narrative journey into our Medieval past– and I have no doubt The Bastard Executioner will be another remarkably original and gripping series. We’re also thrilled to be in business with Brian Grazer who is one of the most gifted film and television producers in the business.”

Speaking of Grazer, he expanded a bit more on the idea behind The Bastard Executioner:

“I find the executioner to be an incredibly fascinating and provocative character,” Grazer said. “He deals with the highest order and the lowest order in the culture. It’s about as morally complex a profession as you can imagine, and it is going to make for a spellbinding series.”

Good news for Sutter fans!

Sutter is a talented cat, but like David Lee Roth's solo career, he needs someone to edit him/tell him no. I honestly think the season of SOA has suffered bloating. Moreso, the sense of urgency to watch suffered. How many of you wanted to watch, but knowing that it would stretch to almost midnight, just decided to wait?

Blu-ray Review: Justified: The Complete Fourth Season | High-Def Digest

Final Thoughts

'Justified: The Complete Fourth Season' is a strong contender for best in the series. It may take a while to sink in, but the sentiment from Raylan's troubled, contentious relationship with his father – which is accentuated by his burgeoning fears of becoming a father himself – resonates long after the season has ended. It may lack an enigmatic baddie like Mags Bennett, but season 4 makes up for that by putting the focus on the program's primary characters in a way that illustrates how much they have changed, and how much of them has stayed the same. It's a storyline that elicits a surprisingly strong emotional response, while still maintaining the outlaw sensibilities that make it great. The season also has terrific picture and sound, and a host of fantastic special features. 'Justified' usually comes highly recommended, and this one is no different.

Gonna pick this'un up on payday sos I can rewatch in time for the Jan 7 premiere.

Only three weeks until Raylan Givens is on my television? Sweeeeet.

Denis Leary returns to FX for Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll

Per FX, "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll" will star Leary as Johnny Rock, the talented lead singer of the early '90s New York-based band The Heathens. In their prime, they were critical darlings on the cusp of stardom, but Johnny's appetite for sex and drugs led the band to break up on the day their only record was released. Now, 25 years later, Johnny is trying to get the band back together, fearing his own anonymity.

The network press release quips "25 years later the sex might be harder to find, the drugs might be Luvox and Crestor and Cialis - but rock 'n roll will never die. It just has a bigger prostate."

The half-hour single cam pilot will be shot in New York City, probably this spring, and FX teases that the series would feature original music and occasional guest appearances by real rock stars.

"Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll' is a terrific script and concept with Denis Leary’s signature brand of comedy," blurbs Eric Schrier, who shares the title of President of Original Programing for FX Networks and FX Productions with Nick Grad. "Denis is a tremendous talent who played a major role in the growth of our network with 'Rescue Me,' which was one of the most groundbreaking series of the last decade. We’re thrilled to have him back home at FX."

Adds Leary, "I am very excited to be returning to FX where working with Nick, Eric and John Landgraf has been one of the best creative experiences of my life. Plus I hear they have much better swag now."
