FX's The Strain A Bigger Hit Than The Old Ratings Model Said - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movie, TV News

Instead of releasing the overnight numbers, “Live + Same Day”, the network remained quiet until the “Live + 3″ came in. This may seem self-explanatory, but just in case – the Live + Same Day numbers show the ratings for the initial airing and the rest of that day. The Live + 3 adds in the ratings for the following three days of DVR playback. Many people, especially younger viewers, no longer watch shows when they are schedule but rather off of a DVR.

It’s not uncommon for a show, especially 10 pm dramas, to jump as much as 50% when the additional three days of DVR playback is included. The Strain jumped 64% and could come close to doubling it’s initial audience if you look at the Live + 7 data.

Looking at Guillermo del Toro’s vampire-virus drama”The Strain,” it averaged a 1.91 rating in adults 18-49 (2.43 million viewers) and 4.73 million total viewers in “Live + 3″ ratings, rising 64% in demo rating (from 1.18) and 58% in total viewers (from 2.99 million) from its “Live plus same-day” averages. The 1.91 puts it ahead of TNT’s “The Last Ship,” which did a 1.73 rating in Live+3 (after earning the same 1.18 rating as “The Strain” in “Live+same-day”).
The article points out the problem with the Neilsen Ratings system. As more and more avenues of watching a program become available – DVR, On-Demand, Streaming – there needs to be a way to track the true popularity of the show through all of these avenues. How many shows have been cancelled because the networks can’t really see how popular they are?

Couldn't agree more.

FX Passes On Charlie Kaufman's 'How & Why,' '70s Set Plot Details For 'Fargo' Season 2 Revealed | The Playlist

FX has passed on "How & Why," a comedy pilot they ordered from Kaufman. Led by Michael Cera and John Hawkes (killer), with supporting turns by Sally Hawkins and Catherine Keener (again, killer) this one follows a man clueless about life, yet who is smart enough to explain how and why a nuclear reactor works. Perfectly absurd, but it seems the price tag is a sticking point. According to THR, the project is being shopped around, but Netflix has already passed, while IFC may take a look.

FARGO - The 1979 Sioux Falls case hinted at throughout the first season will become the focus of the second season, with the narrative jumping backward in time. "We will meet Molly's mother and we may learn what happened to her. Ben Schmidt [Peter Breitmayer's series one police lieutenant] will factor in there somewhere... There were a lot of clues left in the first season and we'll do our best to hit those," writer Noah Hawley said at the Television Critics Association press tour

Im conflicted about Partners with Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence. It looks awful but i like both of those guys

Ok, wrap up

The Strain: if the 'reveal' at the end of episode 3 is too much for ya, you may want to go.

Tyrant:You just KNEW Jamal was gonna lose it. Credit to the actor or the writing that you could make an argument that he is the white hat of the show.

The Bridge: Wellllllllllllll that just got ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

what big reveal on the strain? the dude putting on makeup? So far everything has kind of gone as expected. I was more shocked that marilyn manson lost his "member"

The Bridge is so good. But I may have missed something....did we meet fausto galvez the person yet? or is it some kind of "he doesn't really exist, it's a myth" kind of thing. I get turned around a lot on that show

Yeah, the 'gone smooth' moment. Not that it was gross, in fact it was kinda silly.

And Fausto is the unassuming little guy in the baseball cap who usually sits in darkness. He is the one that let The Lady have 10 minutes with the dude who likes acorns.

Wholeheartedly agree on Lillard. Never better and I would watch a show with his character alone. Ted Levine though. Damn. So casually good. Guy is horribly underrated. Getting a little worn on Marco's growling sigh mode of speech though.

The Strain took a significant turn for the better last night. After the initial episode I was kinda losing faith, I dunno...maybe cause I read the books and it held no surprises, but last night they started getting more into the meat of the thing and from here on out it should be able to keep the momentum if done right. 50/50 At this point...although I still disagree with Doc/Uncle Mitchy's complaints at least in regards to the first episode. I thought that episode was the best so far and last nights had similar pacing. The ones in between...not so much.
