The Knick Interview: Creators Jack Amiel and Michael Begler

During this recent exclusive interview with Collider, executive producers/writers Jack Amiel and Michael Begler talked about what led to the creation of this show, how this was a period of massive transition in America, how Steven Soderbergh ended up being the first person to read the finished script, how quickly Soderbergh moved ahead on the project, once he signed on, their desire to have all of the scripts for the 10 episodes written ahead of time, so that they could film out of order when needed, getting such a terrific cast of actors together, and having the show mapped out, scene by scene, so that they could move right ahead on a second season (which has already been picked up). Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Westworld Adds Jeffrey Wright, Shannon Woodward, Rodrigo Santoro And 3 More - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movie, TV News

This is kinda shaping up nicely. Westworld was always really strange and alien to me as a kid. You can never replicate Yul Brynner but I am cautiously optimistic about this.

I'm embarrassed to say that this is the first I've heard of it... guess I really have been preoccupied lately. Westworld was one of my favorite movies as a kid, I'm grateful the Schwarzengger remake that was very close to filming in the 90's never happened so HBO can retell the story properly..

Vince Vaughn True Detective: 'Swingers' Star Circling HBO Hit

Before you start wrinkling your nose...check out Vaughn in something like Clay Pigeons. He can do nice guy/menacing guy pretty damned good. Sure, he has been mailing it in for years, but he is capable of more.

And Leftovers...how damned fine is that show. Not for everyone...but definitely for me.

As off the wall as the Psycho redeux was, I actually didn't mind Vaughn's portrayal of a "bad guy"... thought he did a good job considering the circumstances.

I just washed Rush. Not what I expected at all and surprisingly really enjoyed it. I think another tank at the box office from Dreamworks but thumbs up from me.

I'm not a formula 1 fan but damn those guys are nuts.

The rivalry between Thor and the Austrian was very well played out. Good job Ron Howard!

I think it did ok $$$ but was supposed to be a player at awards time...the lackluster showing kinda scuppered that.

Anyone see the Knick. Not bad...but a tad unpleasant. Lurid in it's depiction of what was considered surgery at that point, and also in regards to opinions about race. Not a terrible show and it has potential...but it ain't exactly feel good tv.

And there is already a potential drinking game. Whenever someone is walking outside of the hospital, if there is the ambient sound of hooves on the cobblestones, to the point that it almost seems as if the person walking is a horse, you gotta DRINK. First episode had...three, maybe four instances to the point it was distracting.

Watched it and was equally disturbed by it. We don't get Max as part of our package (it was free this weekend - pushing The Knick I think) and I don't think the new show will make me sign up for Cinemax either. I thought it was interesting but a bit disturbing at the same time. Watching him shoot up to get through his day was bothersome. Thought Frewer was very good. The operation scenes were a bit tough.

LOL your drinking game! I could see it!

Like Sons...surprised by my reluctance to let this one go. Even though the 2 best characters SPOLILERs...Harrow and the Mick are gone...

Well, I've lost major intrest in The Leftovers.

"Guest" was a pretty good episode but other than that, its boring the s*** out of me.

I'll probably DVR the rest of it to watch on a rainy sunday but other than that, I think I'm done with it.

Boooo. No, I get it. It's not for everyone. I have to think it may be my fave show on tv right now. But I love glacially paced extremely depressing stuff.

Well, it?s my favorite show on tv also... and im bored with it :)

It goes to show the quality of "TV" during the dog days of summer. It sucks.

Trust me, I don?t mind slow paced and depressing at all. To me, it?s lacking substance, depth and direction. "Guest" gave us a great taste of what it could be. But last sunday's was another "Meh", IMHO.

Man...Leftovers is just terrific. That recurring piano refrain haunts. Will miss _ _ _ _ _ though. I cannot believe I am only getting 2 more episodes damnit.

Correct or Wrong: Has True Blood turned a corner in its final season?

Have not watched since Alcide was mercifully released. But the answer to the above question...not a ****ing chance.

I have to say, a lot of this season has been working for me. It's not entirely satisfying, but it's wayyyyy better than the last few seasons. They've finally gotten back to the relationships between vampires and humans (and fairies...whatever), which is what was good about this show in the first place.

The Tara storyline was amazingly dumb and Alcide's death was totally pointless, but I've quite enjoyed most of this season. It's actually made me hate Bill a little bit less. Only a little bit though. #TeamEric
