David Fincher’s HBO Comedy Series Stopped Midway through Production
http://collider.com/david-finchers-hbo-comedy-series-stops-production/

The network picked up Videosyncrazy at the beginning of May, and Fincher had already set to work on directing the first four or five episodes. However, Deadline now reports that HBO has halted filming after getting a look at what Fincher put together. “While word is that some cast members had been told that the show is not going forward,” reports Deadline, “I hear that the series is not dead but taking a break.” Fincher is now going back and trying to decide on the series’ creative direction, which might involve new cuts or retooling the script.

While Fincher has his two dramas cooking at HBO, he chose to move on this one first, and it’s from an original idea and also from his past. Fincher not only got his start in music videos; he was also one of the key figures in the form’s development with his groundbreaking work and helping to form the production studio Propaganda films.

I doubt that HBO will scrap Videosyncrazy despite halting production. It would be one thing if Fincher had only done a pilot, but now that they’re at least 4 or 5 episodes in, that would be a bit of a write-off. Additionally, HBO probably wants to stay in the Fincher business when he has two other series in development for them. While they may not be completely happy with what they’ve seen from Videosyncrazy so far, they probably don’t want to push the director away. Hopefully, both sides will come to an agreement, and production will resume soon.

‘True Detective’ Season 2 Review: So Is This Thing Good Or What?

http://uproxx.com/tv/2015/06/true-detective-season-2-review-so-is-this-thing-good-or-what/

So it’s… dammit. Will you just tell me if it’s good or bad?

Here’s what I’ll say: I was pretty skeptical heading into this. I had real doubts about the show’s ability to re-invent itself, and some of the casting, and whether I’d be able to get past all the hype of the first and fatigue of the whole #TrueDetectiveSeason2 thing. But after watching the first three episodes, I can safely say I’m in. There are some things that worry me a bit, sure. I watched all three episodes in a 24-hour span, and it might feel like it’s moving a little slow in one-hour increments spaced a week apart. And each of the four main characters is teetering a line between being complex/interesting and being a bit of a caricature (a troubled cop with daddy issues and a death wish, a criminal with daddy issues looking to get out after one big score, a knife-wielding ladycop who vapes and has daddy issues, etc.). Right now they’re all on the good side of the line in my ledger, but I reserve the right to update that as the series progresses. A lot could go either way.

But is it good? Yeah, it’s good so far. If it all lands, it could really be something. And if it doesn’t, it could really get messy. Either way, it’s definitely worth watching.

Whats the story on The Leftovers, JD? Are they continuing the current story from last year or is it a whole new cast/location? I saw the quick trailer last Sunday before GoT and it takes place in some BFE town in Texas?

I read it's a completely new location. It seems like some of the previous characters will be involved, but at the time it was unclear how they would be incorporated.

They are out of source material. They are moving a lot of the characters to Texas and its all uncharted territory. Cannot wait

Yeah, idunno. I lost intrest in it about 2/3rds thru last season. In hindsight, I think TL will be remembered as one of those "Good story potential, shoddy execution" type series.

Hope it works out for you.

I liked leftovers. I thought it was an interesting story about what happens to humanity after the rapture. I thought it was original.

Ballers was pretty good. Until the last 2 mins didn't tape on the PVR. :(

True Detective 2 was a pretty good show. If it wasn't called True Detective 2, it would have been a very good show.

Colin Farrel for father of the year!

S***! I forgot that started last night. I watched Battle Bots instead...which was fantastic in its own right...but S***, I forgot.

Not sure about s2 of True Detective. I recently rewatched s1 and realized that some really bad cliche's and pretentious dialogue was elevated to something really special by the direction and the performances. S2 os off to a bad start in that regard. Not that the 3 leads aren't trying, but ok...so cops are dark, brooding and severely messed up in the head. Did they ALL have to be borderline sociopaths? The Chinatown 'similarities' are pretty thinly disguised too. Thought Justin Lin was a good choice for visuals not as much for storytelling as far as the direction goes. I still think it could prove to be a grow-er, not a show-er...but I remember the feeling last season, at the end of the first episode, that I was fully in. If this wasn't such a high profile deal and potentially rewarding I don't know if i would care too much.
Few random thoughts...ok, Rachel McAdams...the conversation at the beginning...was that about rough sex in general or backdoor action in particular.
Taylor Kitsch's character...is he homosexual? There were a lot of odd hints there, and his storyline, I think, has the most potential.
David Morse is ALWAYS good...but this was a stretch. Maybe the character, the writing, or more likely the direction.
Colin Farrell got really old overnight, and his character's name, Velcoro...is that Bengalese? Hell, I had to look it up on the internet just because I thought I heard 3 different pronunciations.
Vince Vaughn is walking through things so far. Was hoping he wouldn't be his usual lazy self...but so far. Once again...is it direction?
His character's wife is definitely the woman behind the man. Her character definitely bears watching. Looks a lot like Jessica Chastain.
I really want this to be good, and i will continue to watch and root for it.

TD season 2, I'm in! Ends with the eyeless corpse, more please!
For me the development of all the characters is the show, too soon to tell who they are.
Also trying my hardest not to compare it to season 1. Hard act to follow.
