MUST SEE VIDEO: The Devil Made Her Do It | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

It never ceases to amaze me that no matter how hard they try, Hollywood filmmakers cannot even come close to replicating the genius formula that made The Exorcist the classic that it has become. Leave it to an indie guy with a lot of imagination to dole out the goods we've been waiting for ... with a bit of twist. There's always a twist, isn't there?

Get ready to watch a video that will have you questioning reality and whether or not possession is fact or fiction.

Along with Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis as the title characters, Burke and Hare stars Isla Fisher, Jessica Hynes, Tom Wilkinson, Tim Curry, Ronnie Corbett, Reece Shearsmith, David Schofield, Allan Corduner, Bill Bailey, Hugh Bonneville, and Michael Smiley.

For those unfamiliar with the misdeeds of Burke and Hare, which were known as the West Port Murders -- These crimes were perpetrated in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1827 and 1828. The killings were attributed to Irish immigrants William Burke and William Hare, who sold the corpses of their seventeen victims to the Edinburgh Medical College for dissection.

Synopsis
"WILLIAM BURKE and WILLIAM HARE are scratching out a living in 1830s Edinburgh. After yet another failed business venture, they return to Hare?s lodging house to find that their tenant has suddenly died on rent day. As the boys decide how to dispose of the body over a drink, they discover that a corpse can fetch a hefty price. Edinburgh is the centre of the medical universe and the city?s doctors are crying out for more cadavers for their educational lectures. First they try the infamous DR. MONRO, but he?s not interested, so they sell the corpse to DR. KNOX, his vain and ambitious rival who urges them to bring any more ?unfortunates? they may stumble upon. Entrepreneurial Hare is quick to realize they?ve hit on a great money making venture and despite the more sensitive Burke?s misgivings, they embark on a series of plans to secure more bodies. They arrange a series of deadly ?accidents? for the local unfortunates and to celebrate their success, they go out on the town to celebrate. There, Burke meets GINNY, a beautiful and spirited aspiring actress. In a series of hilarious comic misadventures Burke and Hare begin to secure a steady stream of bodies and the cash starts rolling in."

Wow. I still have to watch the dirty end of this. I honestly had to turn it off. It has all of the horrible earmarks of low budge, it resembles a student film, takes itself horrible serious, has questionable dialogue/acting/direction/composition...yet, if you have sat through enough ****...you recognize a great idea/voice when you see one. This film won me over. It ain't perfect, but man oh man is it topical and evil. If you can sit through bad filmaking(due to inexperience/budget) the payoff is worth it. This ain't for everyone. But if you fancy yourself an adventurous movie fan, YOU MUST SEE THIS.

Johnny Knoxville and More Shrunk Down to Fun Size | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

According to Bloody Disgusting Thomas Middleditch ("Funny or Die Presents..."), Thomas McDonell (Dark Shadows, Prom), Osric Chau (2012), Jackson Nicoll (The Fighter), Johnny Knoxville (pictured right; Jackass), Ana Gasteyer, Josh Pence, Holmes Osborne, James Pumphrey, Willam Belli and Peter Navy Tuiasosopo have all signed on to Paramount's upcoming flick.

They join the previously announced Victoria Justice, Thomas Mann and Jane Levy in the Josh Schwartz-directed comedy described as a cross between Superbad and Adventures in Babysitting on Halloween night.

The comedic script, by "Colbert Report" scribe Max Werner, centers on a sarcastic teenage girl (Justice) who is forced to take her little brother trick-or-treating on Halloween, then loses him and must find him before their mother finds out.

Ok. IFC midnight, you have to start being more selective. I see what you liked about this. Straw Dogs meets (insert slasher movie here) with a nod towards the horrors of war.

Great. In the hands of someone who had experience this might have been good. But please...how does a movie that has a 76 minute running time have me reaching for the remote? It shows flashes...but like Red White & Blue it's a great idea by a filmmaker who is not good enough to do it justice. Frustrating, cause it has flashes. And the acting is solid. Just too heavy handed and trying too hard to M.Knight up the place. I have to give it a fail but not for lack of trying.

Chris Columbus to Write and Produce The Cypress House Adaptation | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

What's this? Another book-to-screen adaptation? It most certainly is, and in this case it's Chris Columbus and 1492 Pictures who have acquired the rights to The Cypress House, a Michael Koryta novel that Columbus will write the script for and produce with 1492 partners Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe.

Deadline broke the news on this acquisition, and while the jury's out as to whether it's more "supernatural thriller" or pure horror, we've provided the book's synopsis so you can weigh in with your thoughts.

Synopsis:
Battle-hardened WWI veteran Arlen Wagner can foretell others? deaths. With the Great Depression crippling the country, he works in the Civilian Conservation Corps and keeps his demons at bay with hard work and a flask full of whiskey. He and young friend Paul Brickhill are traveling by train to a new CCC camp in the Florida Keys when Arlen?s supernatural sense tells him they have to get off the train if they want to stay alive. They find themselves at Cypress House, a strangely empty fishing resort on the Gulf Coast run by beautiful but taciturn Rebecca Cady?and right in the middle of a vipers? nest of small-town corruption and misery. Koryta is superb with mood and setting, and the simmering tension erupts into a rolling boil by the bloody, spooky, and satisfying ending.
