All Things HORROR

Exclusive: Liv Tyler on The Strangers 2 - ShockTillYouDrop.com

For a long time, there's been talk of there being a sequel to Bryan Bertino's 2008 horror movie The Strangers, which was delayed for years and then released, going on to be a substantial hit for Rogue Pictures. Tyler told us why she probably won't be returning for The Strangers 2 despite rumors thinking otherwise:

"It's strange. I've read the script. It's been around the whole time, but I don't know how real it is," she said. "Bryan isn't directing it, I don't know what's happened with it. I didn't love the idea personally, but Bryan's such a good writer. He had another project that I was obsessed with and fell I love with and kept trying to convince them to not do 'The Strangers 2' but 'Let's go straight into this thing and it can be 'From the Makers of...' 'cause it was such a great, also simple story but absolutely terrifying. Someone else has that now and they've actually changed it quite a bit. Who knows? Hollywood is so confusing."

For God's sake let it go. The first one was very good, but the time frame for a sequel is LONG past.

More Frankenstein | CHUD.com

Do we really need another Frankenstein movie? Or two, as there are now currently burning the midnight oil on their way towards a wishful greenlight. My take is no, as we’ve had plenty of official attempts and tons of unofficial ones on a rocky road where nothing has come close to the great Universal flick (plural if you count Bride). The only Frankenstein I’d be interested in is the one Guillermo del Toro has spent the better part of his adult life dreaming about. And that’s not happening anytime soon. Variety reports that Max (son of John) Landis has been brought on by Fox to write the latest incarnation of the character and more importantly his monster. This part of their piece gave me a giggle:

“Studio has kept the logline for its Frankenstein treatment under wraps, though with so many Frankenstein projects in early development, Landis will surely be looking for a fresh angle.”

Yeah, it’s real important to keep the logline under wraps. A doctor makes a man out of parts and the assembled monstrosity has a **** fit. It’s not exactly Area 51. Unless the words “in space”, “underwater”, “musical”, or “Latino” are part of this well-guarded document I think it’s safe to say we pretty much know what to expect.

That said, Max Landis is pretty damn great. A truly talented guy. Personally I wish Fox was hiring him to do some original idea of his but alas.

Have you seen Stuart Gordon's DAGON. There's another you might like, if not.:ccat:

Believe it or not, I haven't.

I have seen Re-Animator and From Beyond though. ;)

And I really liked Stuart's adaptation of "Dreams in the Witch House" that he did for The Master's of Horror show.

There was this movie called Cthulhu, which was basically an adaptation of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth," which wasn't so bad.

Yeah...you need to see Dagon then. It was a little too subtle for me, but from what I have read Lovecraft fans find it very satisfying. From Beyond is soooooo underated. I can feel my pineal gland itching.

That reminds me, did you guys see either of the films John Carpenter did for Masters Of Horror? I found a copy of Pro-Life on DVD for $3 the other day and bought it, although I think I remember hearing it sucked?

I didn't see Pro-Life...but Cigarette Burns was pretty good considering that most of those Masters of Horror shows really just lacked...something. The unrated Takashi Miike one that they didn't even show(if i remember correctly) isn't great, but it's certainly worth seeing.

The Miike one is the only one I've actually seen thus far. I agree with your assessment about it. Good, but not great.

Which of the MoH films would you say are great, if any?

I have a few on the shelf...Cigarette Burns is really the only one that I would watch again. Oh waitaminnit, the Sick Girl one by Lucky McKee was spotty but worth a watch. Other than that...there was one with Corbin Bernsen and a dead wife who kept coming back that was ok, and The Lansdale 'Incident on the Edge of a highway(or something like that)' wasn't horrible. I think that mostly these all suffered from budget and rushed production times. It was a great idea and really would have benefitted from a more loving hand as far as the money guys.

Feast Your Eyes Upon The Taint - RIGHT NOW! FREE! | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

There is nothing on this planet that can save you from the awe and power of the nasty, and we mean nasty, indie flick The Taint. It's riddled with moments that will offend just about anyone (except you of course), but you don't have to take our word for it! Watch it yourself. RIGHT NOW - and for the rest of June!

Directed by filmmaking duo Drew Bolduc and Dan Nelson, The Taint stars Drew Bolduc, Colleen Walsh, Cody Crenshaw, and Kenneth Hall. There's so much we could say right now, but holy ****, does what you're about to see speak for itself.

According to the official website for The Taint, the flick is "a low-budget independent film made in Richmond, Virginia with the help of many incredibly talented local artists and VCU students. It is a testament to guerilla style filmmaking and a great example of what can be accomplished outside of the studio system with very little money". Judging by the effects work exhibited below you'll be hard pressed not to agree.

For more info, follow The Taint on Twitter and of course The Taint on Facebook!

Synopsis
The Taint is an intellectual experience. It is a violent and misogynistic film about violence, misogyny, and entertainment. It will poison the minds of men and turns them into raging misogynists who want nothing more than to crush women's heads with rocks. It features sadistic violence, gratuitous sexual content, and scenes of spellbinding dramatic interest. It also contains more c*ck explosions than any other movie ever. It?s the ultimate sexually-frustrated-male-nerd-emotional-masturbation-release film, done in the style of an 80?s horror-comedy.

Thanks, I'll keep those in mind. I've been on a major Carpenter kick lately, so I might actually watch Pro-Life sometime in the near future. Let you know how it is.

Haunted Houses & Planes: James Wan & Takashi Shimizu Line Up New Films > The Playlist

”Saw” franchise creator and the man behind this year’s micro-budgeted hit “Insidious,” director James Wan has lined up his next, a haunted house movie titled [cue ominous music] “The Conjuring” reports Variety. Written by Carey and Chad Hayes the film will be inspired by the real life tale of the Perron family who in the 1970s spent a decade dealing with supernatural spirits in their Harrisville, Rhode Island farmhouse. It is apparently one of the most famous “true life” haunting stories of all time.

Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Takashi Shimizu best known for directing the Japanese and English language originals and remakes of “The Grudge” and “The Grudge 2” has a treatment set up over at CBS Films that he will direct. Titled “Flight 75,” the boring premise is a thriller “set on a transpacific airliner where the passengers encounter what appears to be a supernatural force.”

Shimizu-san... what has happened to you?

The James Wan one sounds promising.

I watched all the MOH episodes last summer, lol!

I had a lot of time on my hands. I'll get back to you to give you some recommendations, but we all know I have bad taste.
