All Things HORROR

I watched all the MOH episodes last summer, lol!

I had a lot of time on my hands. I'll get back to you to give you some recommendations, but we all know I have bad taste.

pshaw my friend...ask the Japanese, dolphin tastes great:poke:

My Lame First Season Reviews of MOH

I might do season 2 if someone throws me a fish. ;)

Incident On and Off a Mountain Road-Not perfect, but I did enjoy it. I want to say that is was based on a Lansdale story.

H. P. Lovecraft's Dreams in the Witch-House-I am biased because I am a fan of Stuart's Lovecraft adaptations, but I really enjoyed this one and the end freaked me out!

Dance of the Dead-More like the dance of the retarded!

Jenifer-Interesting enough. I like the build up.

Chocolate-Pretty forgettable overall.

Homecoming- A lot of people consider this one to be the worst, but I was somewhat amused, but it is pretty bad.

Deer Woman- I thought this was funny if nothing else.

Cigarette Burns-One of my favorites. The best thing Carpenter has done in a million years.

Fair Haired Child-Okay.

Sick Girl-I thought this was really fun to watch.

Pick Me Up-Okay.

Haeckel's Tale-Guilty pleasure sort of thing, lol! Frankenstein-ish, based on a Clive Barker story, and kinky undead sex. :O

Imprint-Pretty good, but I had trouble understanding some of the Asian actors probably because I am a racist. mhihi:

I would say my top 5 are in no particular order:Dreams in the Witch-House, Cigarette Burns, Haeckel's Tale, Imprint, and Sick Girl.

Or maybe dolphins are afraid to watch movies about creepy things under the ocean.

First Image of John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe in THE RAVEN

Huge Cusack fan...hey a Blu of Grosse Point Blank would be nice...

Synopsis:

In this gritty thriller, Edgar Allen Poe (John Cusack, Being John Malkovich) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans, Immortals) to hunt down a mad serial killer who?s using Poe?s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders. Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta), the film also stars Alice Eve (Sex and the City 2), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Faster).

When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper?part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story.

Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe?s writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author?s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer?s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it?s too late.

Thanks for the recommendations, both of you guys.

Orph, gimme your thoughts on Season 2. I trust your taste, especially when it comes to horror.

I always see a lot of these DVDs for really cheap and I want to make sure I pick some up next time if they're worth it.

These are the highlights of Drive-insploitation Cinema. Not good movies at all...but charming in an Ed Wood meets splatter kind of way. HG lewis was kinda like the Gene Hackman character in Get Shorty. I really doubt these films have aged well...but if you watch in the right frame of mind :puff::puff::puff::puff::puff::puff:...and break...

:puff::puff::puff: you may get a kick out of em. Why these are going to be put on Blu I will never know. I cannot imagine the transfer is going to be able to do much with the film.

HighDefDiscNews ? Blog Archive ? 3 Classic ?gore? films via ?The Blood Trilogy? on Blu-ray in September

Anybody seen these? I want to say they were the movies Jason Bateman's character in Juno says were the greatest horror films ever, but I could be wrong. Maybe it was a different Herschell Gordon Lewis movie?

Anyway, they're pretty cheap...

The Dolphin has "The Blood Trilogy" on DVD, hells, yah, I do!

I was tempted to watch Juno just because I heard that it made a Herschell Gordon Lewis! Obviously, I am a fan of the man's shenanigans :D

2000 Maniacs is the best of the three (yes, that's where the band got its name).

The South Will Rise Again! :wootrock:

And yeah, because of the low budget, I really can't see how much better the transfers can get. *shrugs*

LOL.

Where's my MoH season 2 reviews, Orph? :)

:P

Overall, season 2 is not as good as the first. A lot of the episodes here are amusing enough, but full of cliches, and really only worth watching if you have some down time (like not being able to sleep at 3:00 a.m, lol) or just a fan of this kind of silliness. More of the better episodes at best due tend to get mixed reviews, so take my opinions on this season with a grain of salt.

The Damned Thing-I guess Tobe Hooper wasn't contend in making just one retarded episode for this series. Ugh!

Family-This, in my opinion, is the funniest episode of the entire series. Norm from Cheers, lol, plays this creepy neighbor who keeps his family corpses around and talks to them. Normal stuff, basically. ;)

The V-Word-Okay, but pretty cliched Vampire stuff.

Sounds Like-Directed by the same guy who directed Session 9. I really liked this one and its different since it moves away from the supernatural. This is pretty much a slow burning episode that does echo something like Session 9, so if that's not really in your taste, you will probably not like it.

Pro-Life-Okay and Ron Perlman is good to see, but nowhere near as good as Carpenter's previous entry, which left me disappointed since I expected better.

Pelts-I barely remember this one so pretty forgettable? Lol!

The Screwfly Solution-This is closer to Sci-Fi than horror about a plague that causes men to start attacking women. It wasn't perfect, but I thought that it was interesting.

Valerie on the Stairs-Based on a Clive Barker and I really wanted to like this. A story about a writer who ends up renting a room in a place where things aren't what they seemed. It had potential, but it turned out to be pretty weak.

Right to Die-Cliched with a 'twist' in the end. Meh.

We All Scream for Ice Cream-Creepy clown story, which is all sorts of silly, but I do like creepy clown stories. ;)

The Black Cat-Gordon directed episode with Jeff Combs as Edgar Allan Poe. I had mixed feelings and thought that it could had been better, but I did enjoy it and liked Combs as Poe.

The Washingtonians- So bad that it's funny? I thought so. It's about Jefferson being a cannibal and a group of people who follow in his food steps. Amusing, but hella stupid, lol!

Dream Cruise- Meh! Filled with Japanese horror cliches (think: long haired woman ghost out for revenge).

Top Five in No Particular Order: Sounds Like, Family, The Black Cat, The Screwfly Solution, Pro-life.

Decent enough stuff, but the first series is much better.

OOf the Washingtonians...forgot about that one. UGH. The clown one is worth seeing cause it has William Forsythe.

Hey Orph, which was the one that had Corbin Bernsen as a lawyer, and the main character's very naked wife popping up to kill folks throughout? I remember that one wasn't too shabby.
