A recent post on his blog bears the title "Dud Silence: The Hellish Experience Of Making A Bad Horror Film" and almost reads as the horror appendix to Lennon and Garant's book "Writing Movies for Fun and Profit: How We Made a Billion Dollars at The Box Office and You Can Too".

been watching lake mungo the last couple days... reminds me of those old unsolved mystery episodes. freaked me the hell out.

And then the third act hits – Armin drops his mask, the film shifts gear into a mixture of torture and stalk ‘n slash, and things get very, very ****ing nasty. Salvation for the ill-fated protagonists is dangled ahead, snatched away, and slapped in their faces -- and the characters with which the most audience affinity has been developed die bloodily, torturously and hideously. It would be impertinent to reveal much about the kills, but with its ruthless treatment of its fodder, Urban Explorer proves itself to be a stunningly nihilistic piece of work delivered on a wave of shocking brutality and unremitting bleakness. Ultimately effective, and indisputably horrific, it’s a shame that it just takes far too long to get where it’s going – meaning that for some the horrors to be explored here may just remain buried in the undiscovered reaches of the later runtime.

Need another reason to LOVE FEARnet? How about a third video in their Trick 'r Treat themed series featuring everyone's favorite Halloween demon, Sam, ushering the kiddies back to school? Yep, that should do the trick! Dig it!

FEARnet and creator Mike Dougherty brought back Sam in April to remind us that we were halfway to Halloween. Then Sam set out to celebrate Dads across the world. As you'd expect, the videos were a hit with fans, and now lo and behold, it's time for round three! Dig on it below.

The incredible Trick 'r Treat (Blu-ray / DVD review here) is available now. Do yourself a favor. If you haven't seen it, GET IT. If you have? **** it! Watch it again!

Synopsis
A creepy, darkly comic celebration of the scariest night of the year with five tales set on Halloween night: suburban couple learns the lessons of blowing out a jack-o-lantern before midnight; a high school principal moonlights as a serial killer; the quest of a young virgin for that special someone takes a gruesome turn; a group of teens carries out a cruel prank; and a cantankerous old man battles a mischievous trick-or-treating demon.

Hurm. I like the direction. Geigerriffic clearly. I like the Iron Maiden-y candy coated shell on Pinhead. The constriction/vision blocking feeds into personal phobias. The female is a little generic and the last one is kinda trite/video-gamey. The thing I liked about the original designs is the 'butcher's apron' leathers. The Cenobites had that ready for wetwork feel to them. A simple hosedown and they were off to dinner at mom's. These are a little too sterile/metallic. It's a nice start, but with this project stalled(yet again) it may amount to nothing. It's certainly better than 'babyface' Pinhead from that latest d-to-dvd travesty.

Well nobody at this point. This has been put 'on hold' and the Weinsteins will probably have to, at some point, make another craptacular like Revelations to keep the rights until they decide to stick with a choice. I still think Pascal Laugier(Martyrs) is the clear choice and I can't see even Barker disagreeing with that. HaVe you seen Martyrs Luc??? Cause if you haven't...you must! I like the look of guy in the Pinhead art. They need to find someone with that wilting look of quietly mocking superiority. Maybe Carrot-Top.
 
Dave Franco, Analeigh Tipton, and Cory Hardrict to Join Zombie Film WARM BODIES

A trio of young actors are in talks to join the cast of writer/director Jonathan Levine’s (50/50) zombie pic Warm Bodies. Variety reports that Dave Franco, Analeigh Tipton (Crazy, Stupid, Love.), and Cory Hardrict (Battle: Los Angeles) are all in line to join the cast which includes Nichoals Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddry and recent addition John Malkovich. Hoult stars as R, an existentially tormented zombie who strikes up a friendship with the girlfriend (Palmer) of one of his victims. Franco will play Palmer’s boyfriend, who ends up leading the human resistance, Tipton will play Palmer’s best friend, and Hardrict will take on the role of one of Palmer’s dorky friends who becomes Malkovich’s right hand man.

Malkovich is in talks to star as the villain, a member of a group of humans who wall themselves inside a city known as the Green Zone. Corddry will play another zombie like R. Levin recently spoke to Steve quite a bit about the film, so if you missed it you can check out that interview here. The film itself is based on the novel of the same name by Isaac Marion.

BLU-RAY REVIEW: THE WARD | CHUD.com

Spoilers spoilers, everywhere??????????????????????

The Ward isn?t a bad movie. It?s not a great movie, either. I wouldn?t say it?s a return to form for John Carpenter because it never really feels like a John Carpenter movie to begin with. It feels like something closer to the current crop of horror directors that do a workmanlike job but don?t really add any heart or flavor to the mix and primarily get all their scares through fake outs and loud noises. Gone are the synthesized stylings of Carpenter?s musical palate and gone is the slow burn towards unimaginable horror he used to be so well known for. One thing this movie comes complete with, however, is a big old twist at the end in the vain of Identity, Shutter Island and The Sixth Sense. One that is supposed to make you want to go back to the beginning with your knowledge of the twist to see if the film carries the twist logically and to make sure the movie doesn?t cheat. I haven?t done that yet (and I?m not sure that I?m going to) because the twist is at once so telegraphed and yet so out of left field that, if it?s delved into too deeply, it might ruin any goodwill the film engenders anyway. To do this review justice, I have to talk about the twist and what it means to the narrative, so skip to the last paragraph if you don?t want to be spoiled.
