All Things HORROR

I just finished watching this as well. What's funny is leading up the ending I was thinking to myself, "this has been so clear cut and I know where it's leading." Then wham, a complete change of pace. I appreciated the additional questions/thoughts that were created and I loved Cotton's reaction. It fit perfectly IMO with his psyche/personality (ego) established throughout the movie.

I also recently watched The Last Exorcism, finally. I think I'm more on Nasti's side with regards to the ending, but I would like to watch it again and see how it sits with me. Up until the end, though, I thought it was very good.

Let it sit for awhile...I was so angry with the ending because the movie was done so well. But it continued to haunt me for a while. Eventually I made my peace with it and now I realize it was a daring move and the best possible ending. They literally established such a logical set-up and then just pulled the rug right out from under you. It's brilliant really.

Blu-Ray Review: 'Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings' | CraveOnline

Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings is the fourth installment in the Wrong Turn series, and the first I’ve ever seen. I don’t feel too bad about making that confession, but I’m forced to admit that after watching Wrong Turn 4 I have an unexpected desire to watch the other entries. This is a highly entertaining gory funhouse of a movie, filled with memorably creative murders, fun bad guys and boobs out the ass. (Metaphorically speaking.) It’s everything you want from a straight-to-video horror movie, and a lot of what you’d want from a theatrically released horror movie too, because they’re usually too busy classing up the joint.

AICN HORROR: Looks at short film scares with KIRKSDALE! GARTH ENNIS’ STITCHED! THE MONKEY’S PAW! HOLD THE MAYO! FAMILIAR! STEPHEN KING’S SURVIVOR TYPE!
Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

Being a fan of Garth Ennis comics, I was rooting for his first foray into directing would be a success. Turns out, not so much. This Afghan zombies vs military short was filled with clunky acting and unsuspenseful scenes of the shambling dead ever-so-slowly creeping up on our wounded trio of stars. Ennis’ forte is horror and military fiction. He’s written some of the most bone chillingly horrific tales of modern horror and also written some of the most heart wrenching tales of military valor. None of that passion for either genre is present here. Instead it’s just kind of plain and soulless as if Ennis forgets all of the passion he injects into his stories due to the double duty as director and writer.

I will say that this short films serves as a nice little teaser for the upcoming stitched miniseries written by Ennis with art by Mike Wolfer. As I said, thought the short didn’t really make my hair stand on end, I’m confident with Ennis back in a role he’s most comfortable, he’ll be delivering his usual stellar work.

Gingerdead Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver (2011) | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

If you want to know what to expect from Gingerdeadman 3: Saturday Night Cleaver, look no further than the pre-title sequence set at an asylum for criminally insane baked goods. Had the entire film revolved around the Gingerdeadman joining forces with the psychopathic loaf of French bread, the seductively sociopathic cherry pie, and some of the other preposterously portentous puppeteered pastries introduced in the opening, this would have been a new classic for the ages...

...Gingerdeadman 3: Saturday Night Cleaver is exceptionally absurd even for a franchise built around a serial killer reborn as a maniacal dessert treat, and keep in mind the previous sequel featured a puppet named “Haunted Dildo”. Heck, I haven’t even told you about the Carrie girl using her psychic powers to fight the killer cookie man, the time traveling kid cadets, or the transgendered skating superstar owner of Skateland who secretly resents roller skating because she believes one of her performances indirectly allowed Pear Harbor to happen – the flashback sequence chronicling this turn of events is some truly inspired lunacy.

Nothing gets more insane than the means by which the Gingerdeadman is dispatched with in the end. I mean someone had to have been eating gingerbread man cookies laced with LSD when they devised the last five minutes of this film.
Two words, people… roller Hitler.
To quote a friend of mine...I don't want to see this, I gotta see this!!!!!!

Looking for a Twisted Gift for that Psycho in Your Life? Three Words: QuiET RoOM BeARs | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

You can go out to the store, especially this time of year, and grab some pretty disturbing merch. These past few weeks alone I've seen animatronics of guys puking in a barrel, mincing body parts with a cleaver and, an especially gruesome one, of a torso with a giant rat gnawing at the innards as he shrieks and tries to crawl away. Pretty good, but there is something commercial and controlled about them. If you want simple runaway madness, unencumbered by corporate limitations, look no further than Lee Howard's QuiET RoOM BeARs.

Howard originally made the first of the BeARs as an entry into a "Rosemary's Baby Shower" themed Halloween Party. He figured every baby needs a teddy, but this little Hellspawn is going to need something special. So he dug deep into his rotting mind and came up with the concept of the QuiET RoOM BeARs, A group of horrifically disfigured and maimed teddy bears.

"The QuiET RoOM part of the name comes from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 when the kids were in the institution, Howard said. " I created a back story that basically says that SOMEwhere out there, at one point in time, there was an institution full of the worst of the criminally insane, and the most deeply disturbed and psychologically scarred people. When the patients get 'out of sorts', they are placed into the 'quiet room'. Nobody REALLY knows what happens in there, but when the inmates come out (if they come out at all), they are sometimes missing pieces of themselves, as well as less of a soul. And with them, comes a new Bear. Each 'session' in the Quiet Room, produces a new 'session' of bear (the bears have no names, only 'session 1', 'session 2', and so on, carved somewhere into their bodies)." You've gotta love that!

According to Howard, the BeARs are starting to develop quite a following, as you would assume they would. Check out the video below, and some of the pics. These things are just amazing. They look like a nightmare emerging from a teddy bear. Hopefully all Mr. Howard's psychological examinations are up to date because I know I've got some questions about his stability! Howard was Mark Patton's (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2) featured artist at this year's Rock and Shock festival in Worchester, MA and has been getting attention online and in print.

Check out the QuiET RoOM BeARs Facebook Page to get an idea of the depravity that is going through this guy's mind. Holy crap, Lee. You alright?

Howard is currently getting the official QuiET RoOM BeARs website launched as well as working on a script based on the bears' concept. I'm telling you guys, I can see this taking off. You want disturbed? You ain't seen disturbed until you've come face to face with one of the QuiET RoOM BeARs!

AWESOME.

Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt (2011) | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

Best I figure, and with this movie you pretty much have to draw your own conclusions as to why anything happens from this point on, whatever supernatural force lurks within the crystal ball decides to bring the Killer Eye model to life in order to procreate with the women like the giant eyeball wanted to in the first movie. I think. I can’t say for certain because the Killer Eye also has a bad habit of killing them before it has a chance to mate. It could just be that there was one in particular it wanted to mate with and that’s why it zapped the others with its eye beam to make them take their tops off and dance around or get all lesbo on each other before psychically exploding their heads and what not. Who the **** knows?

When the movie ended… Well, umm, it just ended. Most movies end with a resolution of the story. This movie simply has a stopping point. When the end credits began to roll, I actually had to back it up a few moments just to make sure that was the actual ending and to see if I hadn’t blacked out, fallen asleep, had an out-of-body experience, entered a hypnotic state that caused me to walk around the living room in my underwear slowly caressing my half-naked torso, something, anything that might make some sense.

It should have ended with a cut to the Full Moon logo so that Charles Band could pop out of the moon waving a fistful of cash while declaring in his best Porky Pig voice “Th-th-th-that's all, suckers!"

Too bad.

Woman, The (UK DVD/Blu-ray) | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

Revolver Entertainment’s release of The Woman comes in a very high quality package, whether it’s the DVD or Blu-ray that you pick up. Image quality is rock solid, especially in its high definition variant, while the 5.1 surround track shared on both discs does the job admirably. If you have the tech, you’ll want to go Blu for the inclusion of an extra special feature. Both discs share an informative and pacey “making of”, split between a dedicated featurette and some interviews, along with a small selection of deleted scenes and an audio presentation of one of the original songs from the soundtrack (Sean Spillane’s “Distracted”). The included animated short film Mi Burro is an almost psychedelic, Spanish language slice of weirdness following a young boy and the one-sided relationship between him and his uncaring, abusive, alcoholic, whoring donkey business partner. Weird barely begins to describe it, and it’s ultimately almost as depressing as the feature that it’s backing up.
The aforementioned UK Blu-ray exclusive extra comes in the form of this year’s Total Film panel discussion at London’s Film4 FrightFest -- a discussion on American horror, past, present and future with Lucky McKee, Joe Lynch, Adam Green, Larry Fessenden, Ti West and Andrew van den Houten. As mentioned in our FrightFest 2011 event coverage, this is a solid (and lengthy at just over 40 minutes) listen, even if it does develop into somewhat of a venting of personal and professional frustration by filmmakers beleaguered by studio systems. A more than solid package overall, then, though the absence of a commentary track is glaring.

Hope that's on the American release.

This intriguing episode of "Curiosity" airs on the Discovery Channel on Sunday, October 30, at 9pm ET (you can DVR "The Walking Dead"). Check out the preview video below to get warmed up for the social experiment that will leave you asking yourself…how evil am I?

Actor/director Eli Roth is no stranger to exploring the nature of evil. As a master of horror with films like Inglourious Basterds and Hostel, Roth turns his lens to research possibly the most horrifying monster of them all - the average American. In "Curiosity"’s "How Evil are You?", Roth sets out to recreate the infamous Milgram experiment to see how, or if, the results have changed. Roth himself even undergoes tests and scans to see if he carries what researchers dub "the evil gene." So, does Hollywood's famous horror director have a little extra "edge" in his craft?

Evil Dead Remake News Sounds Like a Load of Smack ... Literally | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

I can't say I'm too thrilled about seeing an Evil Dead remake, but after today's bit of news I can guarantee I'll at least laugh my way through Federico Alvarez's upcoming re-imagining of Sam Raimi's classic.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Evil Dead Redux finds five friends trekking to that ill-fated Tennessee cabin in an effort to help one of their friends kick her drug addiction: Without her drugs she becomes insane and difficult to control, which makes it impossible to see that she's actually possessed.

So there's that. Of course, the demons are unleashed when one of the kids reads aloud from the Necronomicon. I know it's closed minded to ridicule these films every step of the way, but this sounds like a plot device that's trying too hard to be edgy. We'll find out as this one looms closer. Keep watching this space for all the gory details. Hopefully the next bit of news goes a long way toward making this whole premise sound a bit better.
