Just saw The Innkeepers at the DTLA Independent, pretty good movie if you like Horror movies. If you see it at the DTIndy, just see it before the 9pm showing, the club next door sometimes adds its own soundtrack if you see a late movie...

Takashi Miike To Make American Serial Killer Film, In 3D? | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

The forever prolific and recently creatively reinvigorated Takashi Miike is being sought to direct House of the Damned 3D, a Louisiana-set horror film with what sounds like a “body count” set-up. Here’s the plot blurb:


Five friends band together to save the historic part of their town and inadvertently become targets of a serial killer after uncovering the truth behind a series of grisly murders that went unsolved … Until now!

This comes from MarketSaw, the passionate 3D advocates. They’ll be all over this project because it’s due to be shot in native stereo video.

They also have a quote from one of the film’s producers, Ethan Terra:


Our goal is to cross utilize the 3D to submerge the audience so they feel like they are apart of the movie, and of course to pull off some really cool in depth 3D effects. Because this film is controlled by an independent studio we have more creative control over what we can and can not do, and this film is aimed right at the horror fan in all of us.

Of course, he would say that. And, to be honest, those are pretty modest ambitions for 3D. It’s capable of much, much more than just creating a sense of depth and space. What about the potential for controlling that depth and space to manipulate audience attentions and sympathies and responses?

Miike staged his recent remake of Hara-Kiri in stereo, and to great effect. At least, that’s what Craig Skinner tells me – I’m still waiting to see for myself. But I think he’s a pretty solid choice for a 3D horror film, particularly in the very thoughtful mode he’s adapted of late, where the craftsmanship of his films has truly excelled.

A March shoot date is apparently already inked, with a director yet to be signed. Whoever comes on won’t have much time to work on the script, or contribute to the casting. We’re having to trust that the producers have set that all up okay.

At the moment, the only actor known to be signed up is Booboo Stewart, a member of Twilight’s Wolf Pack.

I’m thinking there’s a lot to still be nailed down with this film, a lot of holes to be filled. Should it maintain an interesting course (ie. if this Miike talk isn’t just hot air), I’ll keep you updated.

Kaare Andrews to Direct CABIN FEVER: PATIENT ZERO

One of the two Cabin Fever prequels is almost ready to shoot, as director Kaare Andrews (Altitude) is in final talks to helm the project. The first prequel, Cabin Fever: Patient Zero will trace the roots of the deadly virus witnessed in the 2002 original directed by Eli Roth. The plot will follow passengers aboard a cruise ship in the Caribbean as they deal with an outbreak of the virus following a collision with an abandoned research vessel. Andrews will direct from a screenplay by Jake Wade Wall (The Hitcher) and filming will take place in the Dominican Republic. Hit the jump for more.

Heat Vision reported on Andrews directing Cabin Fever: Patient Zero. Best known for his work in the world of comics, Andrews grew up shooting Super 8 films, much like Cabin Fever-director, Roth. Andrews has previously worked on Marvel Comics’ “The Incredible Hulk,” “Ultimate X-Men” and “Spider-Man: Reign,” and is currently drawing up covers for the Ultimate line. His feature debut was the high-flying horror movie, Altitude released in 2010 by Anchor Bay. Currently, he has an entry in alphabetical horror anthology, ABC’s of Death; his entry is entitled, V is for Vagitus.

Cabin Fever: Patient Zero is expected to pave the way for the second prequel, Cabin Fever: Outbreak. That story, written by Adam and Deborah Marcus (Leatherface 3D), tells the story of a doctor and his family who investigate a flu outbreak on a Caribbean island. Not surprisingly, they encounter the flesh-eating virus and are tasked with preventing a global epidemic. Though the prequels are expected to shoot back-to-back, there are no reports yet as to whether or not Andrews is attached for both films.

BD Horror News - TV: It's The Full Promo For 'Holliston'

Adam Green's (Hatchet, Hatchet II, Frozen) long-time dream project comes to life with horror pal Joe Lynch (Knights of Badassdom, Wrong Turn 2) when their horror sitcom "Holliston" premieres on FEARnet television Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012, at 10:30 p.m. ET.

While horror fans have heard quite a bit about the project, Hitfix has now premiered the first full 60-second promo that's been added below.

"Holliston" is a riotous and offbeat multi-camera, buddy comedy set in the town of Holliston (near Boston). Described by its creators as ""The Big Bang Theory" meets Evil Dead II," the series shines a light on the post-college life where everything is a struggle, and nothing works out like it's supposed to, with terrifyingly funny results as Adam and Joe struggle to become big-time horror filmmakers and make ends meet.

"Holliston" stars Green and Lynch along with Corri English (Unrest, The Bedford Diaries, lead singer of Brokedown Cadillac), Laura Ortiz (The Hills Have Eyes, Horton Hears A Who), Dee Snider ("Celebrity Apprentice", Twisted Sister, Strangeland, radio/television personality), and Oderus Urungus (Alien lead singer from legendary heavy metal band GWAR). The regular cast will welcome a bevy of guest stars and celebrity cameos during its first season. Upcoming guest appearances include: Colton Dunn (Hatchet II, "Parks and Recreation"), Danielle Harris (Halloween 4 and 5), Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th Parts VII and VIII, Hatchet), John Landis (An American Werewolf in London, Animal House), Derek Mears (Friday the 13th), Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects), Brian Posehn ("The Sarah Silverman Show"), Parry Shen (Hatchet, Better Luck Tomorrow), Tony Todd (Candyman, Hatchet), Ray Wise (Chillerama, "Reaper").

Savini, Bradley, Pertwee Flick The 4th Reich is Getting Rolling | Shock Till You Drop

You might recall this is the film Sean Pertwee, Tom Savini and Doug Bradley are locked to appear in for director Shaun Robert Smith and executive producer Michael J. Bassett (Silent Hill: Revelation 3D).

Smith will direct from a script he penned. Here is the synopis...

During the early hours of June 6th 1944 a bloody but victorious offensive took place in occupied Western Europe that would claim thousands of lives. Codenamed 'Operation Overlord' the armies of the combined allied forces would begin their long push to Berlin, with the aim of bringing down the despised Nazi regime.





But the chilling realities of Hitler's true intentions are exposed, to create a force that can never be beaten, a 4th Reich - The New World Order. A team of Nazi doctors and scientists were charged with generating a superior race. Their experiments and research would produce unspeakable evil and change the face of humanity forever. If I am not mistaken that played @ ScreamfestLA last year. Yeah, the advanced word is great. I skimmed an article(I think in the current Fango) where they said Israel DOES NOT make any kind of genre films, I forget the reason, but as usual I think it's government related...but that is probably a good reason why this is getting good word. When you hold people back that long good ideas are bound to happen. Hey Adge, that South African horror flick THE DEAD is available on Blu/dvd now at a relatively decent price. Another one that has received nothing but praise.

The Devil’s Carnival’ Teaser Trailer: ‘Repo! The Genetic Opera’ Creators Return

Darren Lynn Bousman, who co-wrote and directed the midnight cult fave Repo! The Genetic Opera, has created a follow-up musical called The Devil’s Carnival. The 55-minute film features some returning Repo! players such as Paul Sorvino, Alexa Vega, Bill Moseley, and Ogre of Skinny Puppy. It also has some new faces such as Jessica Lowndes, Sean Patrick Flannery, Briana Evigan, Ivan Moody, Marc Senter and Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan from Slipknot.

Boseman told THR the film is “more accessible than Repo but also a lot darker than Repo,” and promised a roadshow release that will hit 30 cities starting in April, with a companion 13-song album. The tour will also “[turn] venues into environments that tie to the movie and that will encourage audience participation.”

Repo! co-writer Terrence Zdunich wrote the music for The Devil’s Carnival with Saar Hendelman.

Andrew Pyper's Demonologist Novel Acquired by Universal | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

There aren't many details available at this point, but it's just come across the wire that Universal has acquired Demonologist, a novel manuscript by Andrew Pyper, to be produced by ImageMovers partners Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke, and Steve Starkey.

Per Deadline the studio made a preemptive deal for the film rights with the book set to be released October 11th of this year.

Book Synopsis:
Professor David Ullman is among the world's leading authorities on Christian religion and myth. Not that he's a believer. He sees what he teaches as nothing more than entrenched fiction - the "things that go bump in the mind." It's why when he's offered a trip to Venice to be a consultant on a case study based on his expertise as a "demonologist," he accepts, seeing it as a free vacation for his teenage daughter and himself. But what he witnesses in an attic room at an address amidst the decadent splendor of the old city will change what he believes forever. Terrified, David races back to his hotel. But now he has the unshakable feeling that he is no longer alone. And that the voice that passes from his daughter's lips before she jumps from the hotel's roof belongs to a being he has long studied but until now never thought could ever be real...
