Variety is reporting that the beautiful Famke Janssen (100 Feet, X-Men, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters) and Bill Skarsgard will both topline Eli Roth's gothic mystery Netflix series, "Hemlock Grove," which is to be both written and directed by the man behind Cabin Fever and Hostel.
Netflix's latest foray into original programming is based on the novel by Brian McGreevy. The 13-episode skein will be available to Netflix subscribers in early 2013.
"'Hemlock Grove' centers around the murder of a young girl in a ravaged Pennsylvania steel town."
Gaumont International Television is producing.
"What's most exciting to me is creating the series for Netflix, which as a feature filmmaker is like telling a story in a new medium," Roth said. "Netflix as a platform is the perfect hybrid of cinema, television and social networking, with the creative freedom to go as dark as the story needs."
More good news is coming in for fans looking to Wer to deliver the werewolf-driven cin?ma v?rit? style goodies. Rob Hall's Almost Human, Inc., has signed on to do the effects, which will be a blend of practical and digital.
The news comes courtesy of Bloody Disgusting, who report Hall (pictured right) has embraced the hybrid approach of both practical and digital effects work, as seen in his Laid to Rest films alongside Don Coscarelli's forthcoming John Dies at The End, "Wilfred," etc.
"It makes sense," Hall tells the site. "I've been trying to achieve the perfect balance of digital and practical on my films for years, and so many folks have taken notice that we just can't keep it to ourselves anymore... it's growing and making the company stronger. I've done several movies with Steven Schneider, and I really loved the script for WER. Matt, Brian and Morris really know what they want and are not afraid to collaborate. I'm very excited about what we're making together on this picture. It's juicy... in all the right places."
Wer is coming to us from FilmDistrict and The Devil Inside helmer William Brent Bell. Bell wrote the script with Matthew Peterman, with whom he scripted The Devil Inside, a sleeper low budget horror film which has grossed $53 million domestic for Paramount.
Wer will bring a filmmaking style similar to The Devil Inside and tell the story of a defense attorney who has set out to clear the name of a suspect in a brutal murder case. The lead, Talan, is accused of murdering an American family. While Talan appears to be gentle on the surface, his attorney soon learns that Talan is actually a werewolf.
Everyone loves a great horror movie villain. In their prime the likes of Jason, Freddy, and Michael could take a person apart in any number of ways. The only problem? People get old! What if they did, too? Read on for what is no doubt one of our favorite collections of fan images ever!
For his project titled "Horror Vacui" (latin for "fear of empty space"), photographer Federico Chiesa imagines what the villains and creepy characters of ?80s films would be like if they were "still alive" today.
Check out Chiesa's amazing first entries into his project below, and let's hope that this truly talented artist goes on to make more and more of these. Yes, they're that damned good - and funny! Enough talk! Dig it!
