Cabin in the Woods director reveals we nearly had an EPIC videogame | Blastr

Goddard did an Ask Me Anything over at Reddit, and one tidbit that surfaced was the fact that a crossover videogame with popular series Left 4 Dead was planned in the form of an expansion pack. It would have opened up both the house and the other facilities for full-on videogame carnage.

If you've seen the movie, you can only imagine just how cool this could have been.

Sadly, when MGM found itself on the verge of bankruptcy and the film was delayed indefinitely, the plan was scrapped:

"The game was gonna be amazing. You were gonna be able to play in both the upstairs Cabin in the Woods world and the downstairs 'facility' world with all the monsters. Believe me, I HATE all video games based on movies, they always suck, but porting Cabin into Left For Dead felt like the right fit. It pains me that it didn't happen."
Oh, we can only dream. But, can someone please make a patch that lets me fight a merman? Now!

Daniel Radcliffe Interested in Paul McGuigan’s FRANKENSTEIN? | Collider

and not in the part you would think...

The Wrap writes that Radcliffe has set his sights on Hunchback, a lead role in McGuigan’s Frankenstein. However, they also write that this iteration is a “sci-fi take on this classic story about a creature produced through a scientific experiment.” I’m not sure how much more sci-fi a fictional scientific account can become, but whatever. The Hunchback character is further described as “pathologically dirty and dressed in old clowns clothing.” Take the news with a grain of salt as it appears that the script is still in the process of being finalized and no serious talks with actors have begun.

With Levy’s exit, the big-budget adaptation likely goes with him. The studio is reportedly looking to trim the cost especially in the face of multiple competing Frankenstein projects (ie I, Frankenstein fronted by Aaron Eckhart). With Radcliffe having banked a lifetime’s worth of box office cheese over the course of the Harry Potter series, he’s willing and able to take on roles in these smaller movies, so his asking price might not be a deal-breaker. There is no word yet as to whether original screenwriter Max Landis (Chronicle) is still involved or if McGuigan is looking for a rewrite.

Drafthouse Films, the film distribution arm of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, has partnered with the American Genre Film Archive to release Trailer War, a meticulously curated feature-length program of vintage, rare 35mm coming attraction trailers. Each of the selections is presented for the first time in high-definition, and most have been previously unavailable on any home video format. A theatrical tour presented in 35mm is planned for December 2012, and pre-order is available now for DVD/Blu-ray fan packs which will be available December 18th exclusively on DrafthouseFilms.com. The American Genre Film Archive is the largest "exploitation film" archive of its kind, housing more than 3,500 rare 35mm film prints and trailers. Many of the trailers sourced for this compilation were rescued from impending destruction and donated by Alamo Drafthouse founder/CEO Tim League. In one instance rumors of a hidden cache of trailers located deep within a South African warehouse led League to investigate. After a series of fruitless negotiations, a distant relative brokered an illicit cash exchange in a hotel lobby and smuggled 200 pounds of celluloid from Johannesburg back to Austin. In another excursion to a decrepit, partially-flooded storage facility in southern Missouri, League agreed to the take-all-or-none stipulation and loaded a truck rated for 13,000 pounds with 26,000 pounds of celluloid. "It was during this shaky, 30-mph drive back to Austin while jettisoning soggy, damaged prints at rest stop dumpsters along the way where I conceived of the idea of the Genre Film Archive," says League, "I had to have some rationale for buying 500, 35mm prints and countless trailers."

Legendary filmmaker and Trailers from Hell creator Joe Dante (Gremlins, The 'Burbs, The Howling), lends an extensive interview on the Trailer War disc chronicling his early years as a trailer cutter at Roger Corman's legendary New World Pictures. Also included on the compilation is an audio commentary track from long-time Alamo Drafthouse Programmers and Trailer War curators Lars Nilsen and Zack Carlson. "From the high flying, explosive metal mayhem of Stunt Rock to Thunder Cops' disembodied flying head chaos, each three-minute masterpiece is like a beckoning portal to another, more exciting dimension," says Nilsen.

It's a crippling overdose of towering flames, mechanized destruction, lurking fear, poor sexual choices, and spiritual devastation on an apocalyptic scale. You might want to have a cornea donor standing by just in case...because THIS IS GOING TO BURN!

the trailer makes it look like a fun-bad flick best watched with a group of chemically altered friends.

It’s a slow burner so don’t got into it thinking it’s a all out splatterfest. This is more head****** (did we just invent a new sub-genre?!) horror, working around the premise of...“How can you protect your family from evil when you’re afraid of everything?” Dark, intense and broody - Just the way we like it.

Review: 'V/H/S' A Solidly Delivered Horror Anthology That Brings The Thrills | The Playlist

The individual filmmakers reportedly didn't confer with one another, though trends begin to emerge, with many of the chapters feature male jerks who deserve what’s coming their way – the title might as well stand for “Violent Horrible Suckers” – and women can often be found taking the upper hand (though not always for long). These thematic through-lines assist in making the whole feel like slightly more than the sum of its generally successful parts and slightly better than both your typical found-footage flick and the often uneven horror anthology. All the same, "V/H/S" delivers the thrills and chills craftily and with a better batting average than usual. [B+]
