All Things HORROR

http://www.geeksofdoom.com/2013/03/14/sxsw-2013-review-adam-wingards-youre-next

You’re Next is kind of like Die Hard meets Home Alone meets Them if it was directed by ’80s John Carpenter. Amongst the family is a survivalist expert who does everything right that so many slasher victims do wrong. The expert doesn’t run upstairs – doesn’t trip in the woods – instead they immediately survey the situation and batten down the hatches – rigging up traps and securing weapons for the family as they attempt to survive the attack. Imagine John McClane mixed with Ellen Ripley and you’ve got an idea of how bad-ass this character is.

If this year’s SXSW program is of any indication, 2013 is going to be a good year for horror fans: V/H/S 2, Evil Dead, The Lords of Salem, You’re Next – there’s plenty to look forward to this year, and who knows, maybe audiences will have more to choose from than just the next Paranormal Activity or ****ty exorcism/possession movie come October. If you get the chance to see You’re Next, don’t pass it up – it’s an endlessly entertaining horror-comedy with genuine scares and big laughs.

Plus One (2013) | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

Plus One isn't going to be a film for everyone- and quite frankly I'm a bit surprised by how much I rather enjoyed it and just how much it has stuck with me over the last week. But that's just the thing- what makes Plus One both likable and admirable is that Iliadis really tries his damnedest here, and his enthusiasm absolutely shows; the story is funny and awkwardly structured but admirably tries to give us a completely different spin on how society's perception of things they cannot easily understand may turn out to be the biggest threat we as humans will ever face and explores the dangers of just how far we may go in order to get a second chance at love. It's definitely some heady material wrapped up inside a fun teen party flick that offers up tons of nudity, drinking and some hilariously low-brow shenanigans.

And while it may be easy to dismiss Plus One at first glance as another teen horror romp that has nothing new to offer, just go into the film with an open mind, and you may be surprised by how much there really is going on for a flick that's as raunchy as it is thoughtfully made. An ambitious follow-up to the rather decent Last House on the Left remake, Iliadis proves here that's he's unafraid to take some risks as a storyteller and at the very least try and make a compelling and surprising sci-fi horror flick even if he doesn't necessarily bat a thousand with Plus One.

Love it or hate it, there's one thing guaranteed- Plus One is anything but boring.

THE COLONY trailer is for a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller starring Paxton & Fishburne!!! Drool - Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

Hey folks, Harry here with a really cool looking trailer for what looks like a really harrowing and frigid story about the most uncomfortable post apocalypse yet? I know that Yoko would just not be able to handle cold like that. The insane raging people, that's no problem. But that much snow just terrifies her. Me? Any science fiction post-apocalyptic film starring Bill Paxton and Laurence Fishburne... well, it definitely has my eyeballs as soon as they can grab ahold of the movie. And when is that? Well, it opens April 12th in Canada... And IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT has the domestic US rights. What their plan is, I don't know.

Horror Icon Karen Black Needs Your Help - Dread Central

Throughout the past several decades actress Karen Black has been pretty much synonymous with the horror genre, appearing in countless films from Trilogy of Terror to House of 1000 Corpses. She's given us many memories, and now she needs our help. Let's give back.

The actress has been battling cancer on and off for the past two years, and her family has taken to the internet to ask for help with paying for her treatment. The goal is to raise $22,000, and right now they're just over $18,000. If you can contribute anything at all, please click here and do your part. Every little bit helps.

Good day at Best Buy...Dead Sushi(another crazy overthetop Japanese flick, as if there is any other kind, about killer sushi)exclusive bluray and the Collection(I think, $14.99)/The Collector(Collector is $7.99 for the blu...cheap!)

Plus — it bears repeating — From Beyond!

Actually, this morning I got From Beyond, Phantasm II, and Futureworld, so my Blu-ray adds were all Shout! Factory.

Yeah...Best Buy not carrying any of those as far as I know. Should have my Amazon copy of From Beyond awaiting me on my doorstep. Gonna have to pick up the whole Phantasm series. Got Westworld 2 weeks ago...Futureworld was ok, not bad for a sequel...but yeah, thanks for pointing out these are available today...shame on me.

Futureworld is pretty hokey, but I saw it in the theater when I was a kid, before I saw Westworld, even, so I like it more than I prolly should. I loaned my new Blu to a co-worker, and, as she looked at the box art, she remarked about how much Gwyneth looked like Blythe Danner.

I'm really excited to check out the special features on From Beyond and Phantasm II.
