Blair Witch Review: There's a Scary Secret Hiding in These Woods
http://movieweb.com/blair-witch-2016-review-woods-movie/

It is somewhat astonishing that nobody has attempted a reboot, remake or sequel to The Blair Witch Project in the 16 years since Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows came out. Lionsgate waited until they had the right guys to do it, and viewers are treated to the best possible experience as a result. If you are not completely done with found footage horror movies, and even if you are I encourage you to not be, you should absolutely go see Blair Witch. If you're ok with being scared that is. On the flipside, if you can't handle something that is genuinely terrifying, stay home, because you will not sleep easy. This is a movie that both honors the original movie that inspired it, and stands entirely on its own merit, and that is a really difficult thing to accomplish. Especially in the horror genre. Straight up, this movie is a home run and maybe one of the best horror sequels of all-time. Blair Witch (or should we say The Woods? opens everywhere on September 16.

actually really looking forward to this. Wingard is a very solid director(his episode of Outcast was the best of the season). Something kind of cool about how they shot this under a different title and kept it secret till Comicon.

Have they spoiled too much with the Don't Breathe trailers?

PS.... Jane Levy where have you been since Suburgatory was cancelled? She needs a comic book movie franchise stat!

I thought the same thing, but I have to figure no. I think it comes out this weekend, so I will let you know.

Good call, the first episode of Outcast (that Wingard directed) was by far the best episode of those I've watched. I lost a bit of interest recently and need to watch the last few.

I sure hope not. There were a few things that I really wish they didn't have in the trailer(s).

'Don't Breathe's' big box office win capped off a terrific summer for horror

And sadly, because of this the studios will go all in on mid to low budget horror flicks, with an emphasis on tripling profits. While we may see a few good movies slip through the cracks, the majority will be stuff barely qualified for direct to dvd filler with WB castoffs primed to pull in pg-13 weekend audiences.

So what you are saying is that despite Don't Breathe's success, we shouldn't....

...wait for it...

Hold our breath expecting a horror renaissance soon? :rimshot:

I'll be here all week, haha. :fpalm:

I will say the outpouring of solid low budget horror movies in the last few years made me go back and watch a few big(and small) budgeted ones from recent past to remind me how terrible these movies can very easily turn out.

Hurm. Decent cast...but comes out Friday with very little fanfare. Looks a little like Species meets Splice meets Hollow Man.
