Binge watched all 8 chapters of Stranger Things last night...I never binge watch anything. I just couldn't turn it off. Thought it was fantastic and as others have said, had a very 80's vibe...really a combo of many different 80's movies but with it's own personality.
 
We just started Stranger Things last night, watched the first two episodes. It is so nostalgic, I love it!

Did anyone else feel like they were watching E.T. when the kid asked "El" to hide in the closet?

So...Strangers Things...I watched the entire season and enjoyed it. It's been the best horror/genre movie/show revolving around a group of kids to come along in a while. I was thinking earlier in the season, that the kids were not cursing up a storm like in the '80's movies (think: Monster Squad), but then it started as the series went along, lol. It's a difficult balance. You can't really do the '80's cursing since our times are too PC, but kids do curse when together. It sorta got the right balance.

The show captured the feel atmosphere of the '80's, but very fresh and modern in execution. This season was like a good song and I don't know how another season would work. Hopefully, they come up with something clever and don't just milk it. What I was really hoping was something like the Fargo series where the same creators could do another season with a different cast and story, but similar themes and look. Well, we will see how it turns out.

And, like I said, I really enjoyed the music. The synth based score was like something out of a Carpenter movie. And plenty of era songs. And some non era song, like this one, haha, which was my anthem when the Kings had the second worst record.

Bowfinger is going away August 1. Do yourself a favor and see it if you haven't. Very underrated comedy with Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy in top form.

I might be crazy but 4 episodes in I am digging the Shannara Chronicles. Lord of the Rings for young adults and cheesy as all hell, and yet I'm totally intrigued.
 
I watched Stranger Things over the past few days and really liked it. I thought this Supercut was interesting, but there's nothing in it from Ferris Bueller's Day Off or The Breakfast Club. I noticed several things borrowed from those movies, with the most blatant being Hopper saying, "Did I stutter?" My husband and I cracked up because we still quote that movie on a regular basis.

Interesting that it's practical. Never would have guessed. They used the cgi to good effect in making it seem otherwordly...will have to go back and look at it to see if I can tell the difference. Sound design was boss!
