All Things: San Diego Comic-Con

So...looks like the Ace Parking Sale went tits up. Site closed till further notice. Sigh.

This is what I imagine the offices of Comic-Con and its related companies look like.

So...looks like the Ace Parking Sale went tits up. Site closed till further notice. Sigh.

Even more fun with these guys. People are super pissed at them now. Here's the timeline.

A couple of weeks back: Announce that they'll be selling passes on May 20th @ 9am.

Yesterday morning: 9am arrives, they can't handle the load. Site crashes shortly after coming online. No communication until nearly 11am where they announce they took the site offline to figure out the problem.

Around 2pm: Announce that they'll be bringing the site up at 3:15 because they found the issue.

2:30pm: Announce that the site is going to be back at 2:45.

2:46: Site goes back down and they claim it's because of hackers and not the traffic.

Between 2:47 and 3:15: The site comes up and goes down several times. Some people report they were able to buy passes.

About 3:30: Announce that they took the site back down and that they had good news and bad news. Good news is that they found out the real issue. Bad news is that the site wouldn't be up until tomorrow (today).

Sometime last night: Announce that the site should be back up by 8am today for people to purchase passes.

Even later: Announce that the site might be up and down tonight and people were welcome to purchase passes during that time.

8am this morning:All Convention Center and Hilton passes are gone already leaving those who were trying all day yesterday SOL.

In short, my image might be more accurate that I had previously thought.

EDIT: In addition it appears that they charged people multiple times for purchases accidentally. People reporting that instead of being charged $80 they were charged $800. Others reporting into the $1,000's.

UPDATE!!!!

From their facebook:

SDCC Parking Update: In our system, we can tell who was charged for a reservation but the reservation did not go through. We are working on a plan to accommodate this group of people. Once we determine how to accommodate, we will notify you. If you were charged but do not have a reservation listed in your account under Purchased Reservations we are advising you to book parking on another lot just to be safe, you can always cancel later if you need to. All refunds for duplicates will be submitted to the financial institutions by EOD tomorrow. To determine if you have a valid reservation, you will see dates and locations under the bar code. If nothing is listed under the bar code, your reservation did not go through. If you are having trouble printing your pass, please log out and log back in. If you still can not print the reservation, screen shot it to us at cci-info@aceparking.com and we will determine if it is a valid reservation.

So, not only did they double/triple/eightwhatever charge people, some of those folks didn't even get a reserervation. Now they want those people to buy more parking "just in case". Oh man what a mess they made on this process.

Anyone think they want people to do that so they can start clearing the lots that have been overbooked or is it just me?

First, I don't listen to Linkin Park, necessarily, but I don't hate them. I've actually used some Fort Minor in my work. Also, I would like to meet Mike Shinoda and Joe Hart, but that will not happen through this contest, because I won't be listening to any of those radio stations on iHeartRadio.

Most importantly, however, is this sort of cryptic comment that was the only comment to the article when I read it:

Travis McIntyer said:
Well what about the non local people? I wonder if they will have an online enrty? Things that make you go hmmm....!

I don't think this guy understands what iHeartRadio is.

Cosplayer Nicole Jacobs On Harassment At Comic Cons... And What We Can All Do About It - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

After being asked for a photo, a man squeezed my butt before leaving. After consenting to another photo, a man barked at me “come on, pretty kitty, gimme a smile to think about later”. My favorite (sarcasm) comment was the “whoa there girl, does that ass have a boyfriend?” I’m not sure why, but something about a woman in spandex on the con floor meant to these people that she has immediately, intentionally relinquished her rights as a person.

OOOOOh any comment on this can go...sooooo....wrong!

I award you the blue "Thank you!" card for posting the article, and the yellow "Harrassment" card for your inappropriate assumptions about commenting. :P

Actually, I think it's a thoughtful and important article. The personal accounts are informative, the tips are useful, and the cards are an interesting idea. The red cards are probably a waste of time, admittedly, but the yellow and blue cards could be useful.

[UPDATE May 30] Mattel has released a video on its YouTube channel, giving folks a detailed look at the DCU Classics Doomsday figure and its awesome packaging. Packaging, which you can watch in the embed below:
