Hurm. What does this mean. I'll tell ya. Another line for another overcrowded room. Come on, when you boil it down to the basics...it's easy. Read a really depressing article, I think I posted it, from the San Diego Tribune, where they basically said just that. Any expansion is not going to cure the overcrowding. It's simply going to cause more of the same. No matter what they do, short of tripling the size of EVERY room they use, is going to alleviate the fact that the demand is just too high. And, if they did find some miracle cure...guess what, they would increase the sales of tickets. So, long story short...it means more choices, and more potential hard decisions because there may be things in alternate rooms that you want to attend...but you will have to factor in line time.

I hear ya, but with TWO new 3700 seat auditoriums, that gives a LOT of big content for them to put in there. You need the content first though. Obviously I don't know if the studios have asked and SDCC just says they don't have room, but I'd be thankful for (if even for just a year or two) we get stuff more spread out so people have have a MCU day in Hall H but have Marvel Television in some other big room on the same day and adult swim/Comedy Central in another room. Should thin out some things...even if it's only short term.

I'm CERTAIN this also means they'll sell more tickets too. At least that means odds get better I suppose. :P

Anyone know what the deal is with Dark Horse at Wondercon?

They're not listed as exhibitors, but they've been to the show at least the last couple of years.

D23 taking place the week BEFORE Comic-Con this year. How will that affect Star Wars/Marvel properties and their appearances at SDCC? Me thinks significantly. Probably not a coincidence they're doing it so early this time.

OOOh. that is interesting. No...I think it means they will have a strong presence @ SDCC, but they will have dropped the bombs at their own convention. SDCC will be the victory lap thing again. I think it's their way of compromise cause they know that bypassing San Diego is bad for business.
 
So, WonderCon...

I would say most of my experiences this year are going to be unique to myself, as someone who is there almost solely to get comics signed, but some thoughts:

-Glad it's going back to Anaheim next year and that it's not going to be on Easter weekend. There were a lot of things I liked about the LA Convention Center (wider walkways, bigger spaces, good food options nearby), but the long walk between the South Hall, where the Exhibition Floor was at, and the West Hall, where all the programming was at, was a killer. Especially for someone like me who carries a ****load of books around. Easy, quick access to my car makes a huge difference and there was nothing easy about it this year.

-All the walking meant I decided to skip on some of the larger lines for signatures this year. No Brian Bendis or John Romita Jr. I know neither of them does appearances that often, but... ehh. I'll get anohter chance, I'm sure.

-Only went to a couple panels the whole time, but no doubt the best one for us was the Bob's Burgers panel. Very funny. Just seeing Dan Mintz, who does Tina's voice speaking and finding out that that is basically his real voice... they had to almost stop the panel for a couple minutes because the entire auditorium started laughing after his first couple words. Really looking forward to the new season.

Which is a coin bank that I probably paid a little more for than I normally would have but I didn't know it existed and I had to have it.

-Went to Terry Moore's spotlight panel (he does Rachel Rising, Strangers In Paradise) and he was great, but he spent a lot of time talking about his struggles in the industry and it was extremely depressing. I did spend a little over $100 at his table catching up on everything he's done that I hadn't bought in TPB yet and pre-ordering the limited edition Rachel Rising omnibus. He wouldn't go into specifics about his next project, but he said he was most likely going to do short series that are all sort of inter-connected because when he does long-form, the readership usually dies down too far for him to finish where he'd like it to.

-Totally did NOT stalk Bill Sienkiewicz this year. Swear to god.

-Saw some really great cosplay. There was one group of people that stood out especially. The one guy was Joker from Tim Burton's Batman in the scene where they're destroying the art gallery. After Vicki Vale splashes his face and a lot of the make-up had run off. He had that splash effect and it looked awesome. He also had with him a blonde with a half scarred face and a mask to cover it, a thug in the jacket with a boombox playing the Prince song and another dude dressed as the head thug, Bob. They were awesome.

-By far, the most popular costume was Rey. No question. And most of them looked really good.

-This is the first time I've done a Con with RFID badges. Everything with them seemed to go better than I'd expected. Very few instances of them not working as far as I could tell and not as many bottlenecks of people trying to check in or out, too.

-Did not go to the Preacher screening/panel. Was too ****ing exhausted to stay that late.
