All Things:Science Fiction/Fantasy

The Stand is still King's best work IMHO and one of my top 2 or 3 favorite books. I didn't care for The Road. I guess being a dad I just found it way too depressing and too slow to finish.

I'm not looking for Mad Max novels. I'm more interested in the rebuilding aspect of post apocalyptic worlds. With The Road, it was too much about the dad and his son for my taste.

David Heyman to Produce Adaptation of J.G. Ballard’s THE DROWNED WORLD | Collider

Here’s the synopsis for Ballard’s The Drowned World (via Amazon):

When London is lost beneath the rising tides, unconscious desires rush to the surface in this apocalyptic tale from the author of Crash and Cocaine Nights. Set in the near future, the ice caps have melted and the planet basks in an unendurable heat. London is a primordial swamp; lush tropical vegetation grows up the walls of the Ritz and there are unconfirmed sightings of primeval reptiles swimming through the newly-formed lagoons. Some flee the capital; others embark on harebrained schemes to drain the submerged streets in search of treasure. But Dr Robert Kerans has come to accept this submarine city and finds himself strangely resistant to the idea of saving it…

The Best Logline Of The Year Goes To 'Ex Machina'; To Be Directed By '28 Days Later's' Alex Garland! -Bloody Disgusting

I like this plot a lot: “A billionaire programmer who handpicks a young employee to spend a week at his remote estate and participate in a test involving his latest invention: an artificially intelligent female robot.”

The idea of a Tony Stark-esque man who builds a realistic fem-bot that’s left in the watch a young male? Sound like it could tread into some dark and disturbing territory.

And guess what? It’s penned by 28 Days Later writer Alex Garland!

Garland is also making his directorial debut on the indie robot thriller Ex Machina, which hales from DNA Films, the company behind Dredd, Never Let Me Go and Garland’s breakout 28 Days Later, says Hollywood Reporter,

They are eyeing a summer or fall shoot for the film and a budget of about $15 million.

Update on Classic Godzilla Actor Akira Takarada's Role in New Godzilla Film - Dread Central

"For the record Mr. Takarada filmed his scene on 3/18/13. His scene was the very first scene they shot. The YouTube video of Gareth Edwards stating that they just shot the first scene of the movie is the scene with Mr. Takarada. My take on this is by shooting his scene as the first shoot, [it] "symbolically" links the original Godzilla movie to this production. That again is me, not an official thing. He is now back in Japan. He is thankful for our effort in making this happen. Max Borenstein and Gareth Edwards are very happy about it also."

I had to wait a bazillion years, but this may actually make up for all the tears that that goddamned Matthew Broderick Godzilla caused me.

I was assigned Ender's Game in high school, lol, but I slacked off and didn't read it. mhihi:
