Tomorrowland Movie Images Reveal George Clooney; Story Details Unveiled

Here is how the basic premise of Tomorrowland is described by EW:

A Florida girl who dreams of the future while watching the launchpads of Cape Canaveral being disassembled goes exploring one day and, after landing in a bit of trouble, finds herself in possession of a mysterious pin. Touching it reveals a vision of a place that may not be a different world but simply a better one. it’s gone…and the quest to discover the real Tomorrowland begins.

That girl, Casey Newton, is played by Under the Dome star Britt Robertson, who sets the story of the film into motion. Lindelof confirms that although Walt Disney doesn’t appear as a character in the film, the story suggests that Walt built his Tomorrowland attraction after catching sight of the same otherworldly place:

“What Hogwarts is to magic, Tomorrowland is to science: They are both easy to find if you are a wizard and very difficult to find if you’re a Muggle,” says Lindelof. “Walt Disney is not a character in our movie, but he is referenced as having some involvement in this mysterious place called Tomorrowland, as a huge futurist and aficionado of space travel, rocketry, cities of the future, and space travel.”

A friendly reminder: Evangelions are one of the most ****ing terrifying creations in scifi.

Essentially a science fiction anime series about titanic Frankensteinian abominations bent by force of human will into defending the planet from celestial horrors, too many fans only seem to see the Evas as "mecha," when in fact they are 100% monster.

Seriously folks, this anime is probably one of the top ten best works of science fiction (let alone anime) ever created. I'd seriously recommend binging the original series if you're a fan of scifi. And I will GLADLY help you get a hold of it to watch digitally.

Live Action "Ghost in the Shell"

Maybe I can kind of see it, but I have a hard time being convinced ScarJo can pull off Major Motoko Kusanagi.

Paul Shirey, JoBlo.com (10/16/14)
Based on the 1995 film of the same name (as well as the Manga comic), GHOST IN THE SHELL is the latest anime adaptation in the Hollywood pipeline, with SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN's Rupert Sanders directing. Recently, it was reported that THE WOLF OF WALL STREET's Margot Robbie was up for the lead role of Motoko Kusanagi, the cyborg heroine of the series, but apparently aggresive negotiations to get her into David Ayer's just-announced SUICIDE SQUAD may have derailed her involvement and now the word is that a $10 million offer has been made to Black Widow herself, Scarlett Johansson, to take the part.
...

No word on how close she may or may not be to signing on, but the deal is sure to move along quickly. Johansson will next be seen again as Natasha Romanov/Black Widow in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON on May 1, 2015.

Charlie Kaufman to Write IQ 83, Steve Carell to Star

The Adaptation. and Being John Malkovich screenwriter will pen an adaptation of Arthur Herzog?s science-fiction novel IQ 83, which revolves around the outbreak of a disease that is slowly making everyone dumber. More after the jump.
Deadline reports that Paramount has hired Kaufman to do a page one rewrite of IQ 83, which is being developed as a star vehicle for Carell. The lead role is that of Dr. James Healey, who led a group of scientists that conducted DNA experiments which subsequently unleashed an airborne disease that progressively lowers the IQ of those infected. Healey must work quickly to right this wrong, as he himself starts to succumb to the effects of the outbreak.
The premise is very Idiocracy, but with Kaufman aboard I?m sure we?re in for something wholly original and delightfully odd. While the book was written as straight sci-fi, the plan is for Kaufman?s take to lean more on the side of scathing satire in the vein of Dr. Strangelove. It?s unknown if Kaufman might also direct the film (he made his directorial debut with 2008?s Synecdoche, New York), but Paramount won?t be focusing on filling the director?s seat until he finishes the script. Kaufman has just now been signed to the project so it may be a while before we hear an update, but I?ll be crossing my fingers that this one comes to fruition. It?s been too long.

Disney Loses Film Rights To John Carter - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movie, TV News

In an announcement on Tuesday, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. said that they have regained the rights to the John Carter franchise and are looking for a new partner to develop films based on the eleven Mars novels by Burroughs.

Many fans enjoyed the Disney film and want to see more, but doing a sequel to a movie that flopped so bad would be very difficult. The company may be better off finding a different avenue for the property… maybe a television series or a deal with Amazon or Netflix.

The rights to create comics based on the characters had recently been settled and a new John Carter: Warlord of Mars series from Dynamite Entertainment kicks off in November.

First Look at TERMINATOR: GENYSIS Provides Images of the Characters Plus Plot Details; Sarah Connor “Orphaned by a Terminator”

Is it too early to declare this d.o.a. ?

We know that Terminator: Genisys isn’t going to be a sequel or a reboot, and according to Courtney, it’s a “reset” for the franchise. The movie takes place in 2029, but also has Kyle Reese (Courtney) going to 1984. EW [via The Playlist] provides a few new details about the film:

Sarah Connor isn’t the innocent she was when Linda Hamilton first sported feathered hair and acid-washed jeans in the role. Nor is she Hamilton’s steely zero body-fat warrior in 1991’s T2. Rather, the mother of humanity’s messiah was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she’s been raised by (brace yourself) Schwarzenegger’s Terminator—an older T-800 she calls “Pops”—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who’s great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.

Man. Sometimes a franchise is just played out. No matter how much strip mining you do. Kudos to Cameron for wringing all he could out of this.

First EX MACHINA Trailer Starring Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, and Alicia Vikander

“To erase the line between man and machine is to obscure the line between men and gods.” Thus begins the first Ex Machina trailer, projecting an ominous tone for the psychological thriller. The script by Alex Garland centers on a billionaire programmer (Oscar Isaac) who invites a young employee (Domhnall Gleeson) to his remote estate to be the human component in a Turing test to evaluate his new artificial intelligence robot, Ava (Alicia Vikander). This is Garland’s directorial debut, and I am curious to see what he can do after contributing to great ambivalent science fiction like 28 Days Later, Sunshine, and Never Let Me Go. Plus, Isaac is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. I’ll watch anything he’s in, especially if he plays a shady genius with a great beard.

Filmmaker David Twohy is poised to tackle time travel in his next film. Deadline reports that the director behind the Riddick trilogy will helm the thriller Replay for Relativity. The story follows a test subject in an experiment who is sent four days into the future, only to discover that his son has been killed and he’s being accused of committing the crime. When the day is over, he wakes up to find it’s now the previous day, thus beginning a murder mystery in reverse as he must solve the murder before he reaches the day of the initial experiment, which is when the killing occurred. The project was penned by Joe Gazzam, who is writing the upcoming Cliffhanger remake. This is not to be confused with the other time travel movie called Replay, which is based on Ken Grimwood’s novel and previously had Robert Zemeckis in line to direct.
