Mad Max: Fury Road To Be Shot In 2D After All, Then Converted To 3D | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Shame really, but at least they have a reason.

With doubts that 3D camera rigs could hold up to the desert shooting conditions, George Miller and his cinematographer, John Seale, have opted to film the new Mad Max movie, Fury Road, in 2D, then up-convert to 3D in post. Typically not a popular decision, Titanic and, to a large extent Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter showed that good post conversion can pass the sniff test with almost all audiences.

But no, it’s not the same.

Interestingly, the Australian website IF (via Twitch) are noting the full camera set chosen for the film. It runs to:

4 ARRI ALEXA Plus cameras (for standard sound shooting)
3 ARRI ALEXA M cameras (for the interior of trucks)
6 Canon 5D cameras (for stunt situations)
7 Olympus P5 cameras (as pure “crash” cameras)

Crash cameras? Nicely done.

Production on the film has finally kicked off in Namibia. Bleeding Cool understands that Brendan McCarthy‘s early input is still making up a good part of Miller’s plans for the film and from what we know of those plans, this is big, brash but still very inventive and smart stuff. Can’t wait to see more.

Wait, what?

Following LaMotta from his youth (played by newcomer Mojean Aria), and then jumping forward to ages 34 to 73 (William Forsythe), the film's cast also includes Joe Mantegna, Natasha Henstridge, Penelope Ann Miller, and Tom Sizemore. Asked recently about the uproar against tackling the story again, Forsythe replied, “I understand that because it's such an iconic, beautiful and amazing first film -- one of the great films maybe of all time. But our story has a lot more heart and I think it's a beautiful depiction of who Jake really is.”

MGM Suing To Halt Production On 'Raging Bull II' Because, Obviously | The Playlist

According to the studio, MGM had the right of first refusal for any sequels and LaMotta was not authorized to sell the rights unless he went to them first, which he didn't. Moreover, they also claim that "Raging Bull II" is trying to boost its profile by associating it with the more prestigious "Raging Bull," which is, well, DUH and also claim that the sequel could tarnish the original. No response yet from the folks behind the unofficial sequel, but with MGM requesting a trial, they will have to lawyer up pretty fast. If those producers do lose the case, it will be a pretty big financial hit.

Pretty much the only reason I'm going to pay for a ticket to see this film is because of Jean-Claude Van Damme. Maybe Scott Adkins too. Might end up rooting for them instead of Stallone.
