All things:sequels

Here's to hoping that they take the ridiculousness of that Jurassic World trailer and crank it up for the full movie. Could be awesome.

damn this rules

Ugh. I hate everything about Arnold's return to acting. Terminator 3 was bad enough, this looks awful.

And are people actually loving the Jurassic Park trailer or is it sarcasm? I can't even tell anymore.

Man f*** movie trailers!!!

I hate how our society has turned into movie trailer culture. Comic Con is just one big fap fest for trailers and other marketing B.S. that will have no affect on how the quality of a film will turn out.

Remember that Avatar preview thing that was for free for a limited amount of people? Pretty soon movie studios will start charging us $10 to see a 20 minute preview of their latest blockbuster franchise, or charge people money to be the first to see the newest trailers. Feels like there is a whole generation of kids that are not even fans of actual films , but of trailers promoting films.

S***, there's a whole legion of fanboys who strongly defend a dog crap film not because they're fans of the franchise that film is based off of, but because they decided that film was going to be the greatest film ever made simply based off the trailer.

That's quite an oversimplification. I'm not sure anyone has gone full fanboy over JUST a trailer. Most times, and I'll admit guilt here, the trailer is the money shot for months of optimism based on casting, articles, predictions etc. Nobody can be sure of anything till they plunk down their 12+ bucks. But that's the game isn't it? You have to get excited about something in this life. As far as Comicon, have you ever been? Yeah, its basically a sales fest for whatever the studios decide is the big ticket item...but, I've been going for years...and its a blast every time. Sure, waiting in line...not getting into everything...huge crowds...but its more than that. Maybe its mass hypnosis, but there's a reason why its such a hard ticket.
As far as sequels go...there is also a reason the market is flooded with them. People will go try something they have familiarity with. We are creatures of habit. That's part of the reason I try to give as much info on these pages about new stuff. Its like I always say, at the end of the day...vote with your wallet. You want to see more original stuff...the best way to encourage that is by spending your money on a movie that may be unfamiliar, and may not have the calculated budget of a tentpole blockbuster... Some of these movies may not pay off, but its the only way to get the attention of the studios. By the way, not all sequels need to be painted with the same broad brush. For example, the Planet of the Apes flicks have been terrific additions to the franchise. Its all relative, and you have to realize, the big money goes to the safe, calculated, lowest common denominator. The Transformer movies may blow...but until they stop making money, they are gonna keep coming. Its a sad fact of life. VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET!!!

I agree with everything you said in the second part of your statement. I'm not really all that bothered by franchises or sequels because I'm aware they are made for the mouth breathers. My problem is more with the Youtube generation, and even some people who get off on hyping films more so than actually watching the film. I have a few friends who are guilty of this, and trailer hype pretty much rules the Youtube channels. I don't think I'm oversimplifying the supporters of Prometheus. I've actually met people who hyped up, and now defend Prometheus, but they have never seen a single Alien movie. Same goes with a lot of other franchises. These people are sort of like the sports bandwagoner who is really vocal, but you know they have never seriously watched a game in their entire life.

I'm not trying to knock ComicCon for not having any value because some people probably really do enjoy paying all that money to see a early sneak peak of their favorite franchises. For myself though I don't find that experience to be worth it. Don't feel we need to get that experience at home or at the theaters. For the most part though I blame Youtube for creating these type of people. There are seriously more reviewers of film trailers on Youtube than there are reviewers of actual film.

And I agree with you on the new culture surrounding trailers...at least in the aspect that they have become 'events' almost more important than the actual movies. They announce when the PREVIEW for the trailer is going to show. To me that's ridiculous. BUT, that is the studio system trying to drum up more revenue generation. They now announce what show the preview will make it's debut on. Are tv ratings that miserable. And who doesn't have access to a computer that they are going to watch NBC's latest doomed to fail tv show in order to see something they can just dial up.
