‘Jack Reacher 2′ Sets Fall Release Date
Paramount has set a fall 2016 release date for Jack Reacher 2, which has Tom Cruise returning as the titular hero under director Ed Zwick (The Last Samurai).

Jack Reacher 2 is scripted by Marshall Herskovitz and Richard Wenk. It’s based on Lee Child‘s 2013 book Never Go Back, the 18th in his Jack Reacher series. Here’s a basic summary of the novel:

In it, Reacher heads back to his old military base in Virginia to take a woman to dinner who is now the commanding officer. By the time he gets there, she has been arrested, and Reacher finds himself being charged with pummeling one guy and fathering a child with a woman. He can’t remember either transgression but gets to the bottom of it with cunning and sometimes brute force.

Of course, we can expect a few things to change in translation. Cobie Smulders is in talks to play Danika, which isn’t the name of any major character in the Jack Reacher novels. Danika might be an altered version of Susan Turner, the commanding officer mentioned above, or she might be a character invented just for the movies.

‘Furious 8’ Director Search Proving Difficult; James Wan Was Implored to Return

When that happened, THR reports that Universal went back to Wan with “life-altering money” as part of a new deal, but he once again declined.

Why the reluctance to return? Not only was it a difficult shoot logistically and emotionally, but THR suggests that working with star Vin Diesel was taxing:


“Sources say Diesel proved extraordinarily difficult. As a producer, he is said to have questioned even small details on elaborate action sequences, often holding up the complex production. He also was known to summon filmmakers to repeated late-night script sessions to make him comfortable with his character and dialogue.”

Both Diesel and Wan’s reps deny any on-set tension, and producer Neal Moritz goes so far as to say, “Obviously if there was any issue, we wouldn’t be making the eighth [film] with [Diesel] right now.” The studio is currently in the midst of casting a wider net, approaching Non-Stop helmer Jaume Collett-Serra (who’s unavailable) and both experienced action directors and relative newcomers. THR says some at Universal fear that Diesel will want to direct an installment of the series at some point, while another source says that prospect doesn’t interest Diesel. Regardless, he remains involved as a producer on the series and must be consulted on director choices, though he does not have veto power.

Ridley Scott Reveals when the ‘Prometheus’ Series Will Finally Link up with ‘Alien’

“Prometheus has its own story to tell before it eventually ties into the movie that started it all…it won’t be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the ‘Alien’ franchise.”

And why exactly do we need all of this build up? Scott elaborated:


“The whole point of it is to explain the ‘Alien’ franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself. I always thought of the Alien as a kind of piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.”

Ugh. Do we really need 4 movies for this?
 
If each of the other movies teaches us an important life lesson like "don't run in a straight line away from something enormous that is rolling after you in the same straight line", then it is all worth it.
 
Ridley Scott Clarifies Alien: Paradise Lost Connection To Alien Series

“Because we’re heading back to why and how and when the beast was invented,” said Scott. That was the original prompt for Prometheus, but Scott and screenwriter Damon Lindeloff were sidetracked by other ideas and the film, as Scott described it at the time, contained “the DNA of Alien.” In some scenes, that appeared to be literal.

Scott further told HeyUGuys that “We’ll go back into the back door of the very first Alien that I did thirty years ago.”

Man, from what I have read, between Zwigoff being a bit cranky-ish, and studio interference, it's amazing that the first one is so good. Or maybe that's why.








And what is it with you people and ****ing sandwiches????????
