All things:sequels

Ok, I do not want to hear from any actress that they cannot get parts. If you broke it down, I bet you would find that Moore is one of the most consistent working actors in Hollywood. And it's not all older/mom parts she gets. Either she has an agent who isn't adverse to threats and blackmail, or the others simply aren't trying hard enough. After watching the first one repeatedly lately...Roxy. Is she gay? It's strongly suggested when their mission is to seduce the woman, and the lack of any love story between her and Eggsy(despite their closeness) is highly suspect. Not that it even matters, but it's quietly hinted as opposed to declared and I wonder if anyone else had an opinion.

I am. PHHHHHHBBBBLLLLTTTTTT!!!!!!!! Especially when you add in(if I am not mistaken) GDT jumped off of Justice League Dark to go all in on PacRim2. So now...we have some scrub filling in on that, and now a TV guy expected to fill the shoes of a man who created Pacific Rim with true love for the creatures that inhabited it. No doubt the budget will be lowered as will the actual expectations. This is the equivalent of getting a direct to dvd sequel. I love GDT. LOVE HIM. Anything he does comes with a fanboy mentality that he cannot disguise. The one problem is that he wants to do so much that he gets distracted too easily. I am not sure if he stepped off of this or was pushed...I am sure he will let it be known. But it is terribly terribly disappointing news.

Steven S. DeKnight has a lot of sci-fi/fantasy type work... Angel to Smallville to Spartacus. He should be great.

I'm not sure you are wrong. But, so far, DeKnight has never really created anything to my knowledge. I am sure he will be adequate. Maybe he will even do a better job with the human element of the story, since that seems to be a main complaint with a lot of GDT's detractors on the original. BUT...and this is huge...Del Toro brings something that cannot be replaced. Unbridled, unedited enthusiasm. You know, that stuff that people USED to talk about...movie MAGIC. I'm not sure that, in the hands of someone else, this just deosn't become another Transformers clone...which was another unjust/unfounded criticism of PacRim 1. I will hope for the best, but you will NEVER convince me that this is in better hands.

Should ‘Pacific Rim 2’ Be A ‘True’ Sequel?

But it does raise the question if anybody at all is coming back. Currently only Charlie Hunnam, who played one of the heroes from the first movie, and Ron Perlman, a relatively minor if memorable character, are rumored to be coming back. Similarly, the film’s tumultuous production history, where a sequel was considered before being reported as shelved in favor of King Kong and Godzilla movies, raises the question of just what the budget is and who’s involved. Will we see any ties to the previous movie, or will it be more of a budget-friendly exploration of the concept? DeKnight is well-known for getting the most out of a budget, thanks to his experience as a producer. That was part of the reason Del Toro hand-picked him for the job.

Guillermo Del Toro calls Steve DeKnight a 'great choice' for 'Pacific Rim 2'

Ok, so news is still shaking out. But...it looks like Legendary was not interested in committing to Del Toro's submitted script and proposed budget, yet they still want to cash in on the franchise potential in overseas markets. So...GDT, like a gentleman, did the best he could to try to protect his baby.
Like I said earlier...expect a LOT LESS.

The not-sequel 10 Cloverfield Lane was... fantastic! :) Not even sure what the right thread is to talk about it without spoiling things.
