Academy Award winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Frozen River, “Louie”), Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Martian) and Clark Duke (Hot Tub Time Machine, “The Office”) have joined the ensemble cast of the new one-hour Showtime dark comedy pilot I’m Dying Up Here. They join previously-announced cast members Ari Graynor, Andrew Santino, RJ Cyler, Erik Griffin and Stephen Guarino. If the pilot is picked-up to series, Leo and Duke would appear as series regulars, Stan would guest star.

Leo will play the role of “Goldie,” a brassy comedy club owner who rules over her business with an iron fist and nurtures her comedians with tough love. Stan will play “Clay,” a funny, charming comedian on the rise, who declares irrelevancy as his biggest fear. He is idolized by his ex and fellow comedian Cassie (Graynor). Duke will play “Larry,” a ballsy young comedian from Boston who moves to L.A. with the hopes of making it big.

Produced by Showtime, I’m Dying Up Here is written and executive produced by Dave Flebotte (“Masters of Sex,” “Will & Grace,” “Desperate Housewives”), and executive produced by Golden Globe winner Jim Carrey and Michael Aguilar (The Departed, Semi-Pro), and Christina Wayne (Copper) for Endemol Shine Studios and Assembly Entertainment. The pilot will be directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies).

Set in L.A.’s celebrated, infamous stand-up comedy scene of the 1970s, during which the careers of most of our comedy superstars began, the pilot will delve into the inspired and damaged psyches that inhabit the hilarious, but complex business of making an audience laugh. I’m Dying Up Here will shoot in LA this fall. The pilot is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by William Knoedelseder.

Have not seen this week's yet, but SECONDED. Usually it takes a few episodes to get back into, but this season hit the ground running. I like the personal nature of it along with a taste of the political/spy trappings. It keeps the formula fresh. Carrie went full psycho all too quickly and comfortably, but that's our gal.

How is it that we are the only ones watching this. OUTSTANDING season so far. And Carrie's wig choice is from the Fx's The Americans collection!!!!!

In true Thanksgiving fashion, decided to binge on season 2 of Penny Dreadful. About 7 and 1/2 episodes in...thoughts...

Dorian Gray is such a non essential character. Written/portrayed as such a vacuous non-entity. I am aware that 'things' may happen to remedy that, so...
The guest shot by Patti Lupone as the 'Cut-Wife' was truly emmy worthy. For her to make Eva Green background noise, that's a helluva performance.
Sir Malcolm is interesting. Nice to see Dalton having so much fun.
I do not know if Sembene has an origin episode this season, but he deserves one. Essential 'glue' character that has so much more to offer.
Lily and the Doc...well, duh.
Funny, the creature is so timid and sweet...yet when he is in the presence of the Doc...a tempest. Need to see more of that side in relation to other instances.
The show is ****ING BEAUTIFUL.
And the music is second only to the Leftovers as far as being an essential part of the show.

EDIT: Oh yeah, where are the action figures for the bald, very nude, and scarred by Satan's claws Night Comers? There just aren't enough female action figures these days.
P.S. There is a LOT of nudity/sex on this show...including the single most graphic man on man scene I have ever witnessed. Hats off to Showtime for going for it, in every sense of the word.

I think I have 4 and a 1/2 left...so when I complete it I will check back in. And then, in time for the premiere, I have to finish up those last two episodes of Black Sails.(yeah yeah, I know, remember, it took me 40 some odd years to watch the Exorcist, so I am still in my window).

Yes to Penny Dreadful being amazing and **** YES to Black Sails being amazing. New season coming in January! I can't wait.

I have only seen up to the second ep of Penny Dreadful so far.

The first season, haha. I am slow. Good so far.

So many shows, so little time. no:

Ruh Roh...looks like Homeland is the latest show to go all 'did they or didn't they kill that character'. I sure hope not. 3 episodes left...

ughhhhhh they better not. Quinn's storyline has been crazy this season, but he can't die that way. On another note, I am soooooooo happy with Saul/Carrie reuniting again to try and take down Eowyn. I'm really digging this season so far.

don't think he'll be dead, but, even with the antidote(?), he will have to have some kinda damage from the sarin. He hasn't been particularly Quinn like this season.Fooled by Allison, shot by Carrie, shot by nameless henchman #3 , and then outwitted by a second tier wannabe terrorist. He's the damsel in distress and Carrie ain't done **** for him. And that Allison...craft-yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
