Penny Dreadful first look: Natalie Dormer descends upon the City of Angels

At its core, City of Angels (premiering on Showtime in 2020) is about the ?demonization of the other,? says Game of Thrones vet Natalie Dormer. The description is fitting, considering she stars as a literal demon named Magda. For Logan, she is the aspect of the show that ?makes it a Penny Dreadful.?

Dormer describes her shape-shifting hell queen as a ?delicious, multi*dimensional thrill,? an ?agent of chaos? who can ?sow the seeds of disorder.? In the first season, we?ll meet three of Magda?s manifestations as humans, says the actress. ?The audience will discover who those identities are as they continue to watch the show.?

Looks ok. Kinda reminiscent of The Terror season 2, which I am still struggling to finish.

I loved The Terror S2. Not perfect, but I liked it.

I'll hafta give this one a try too. And for the record this does not mean that I have forgiven them for the Penny Dreadful Series Finale.

HOMELAND, look...you all know this show. Is it as good as first 2 seasons, no. Those were high watermarks. But, in the final season, is it still worth watching? Yes, Mandy Patinkin is such a great actor. To watch his seething rage barely contained by his focus, and Claire Danes facial gymnastics. Good plot with solid acting...and some sadness, it is their last season, so...some surprises. Finish it!

There was enough in the premiere to keep me engaged, but it didn't grab me like the original series. I think the atmosphere in Victorian London and the characters slowly introduced grabbed me a lot more than the LA scene. And the entire plot line of who's pulling who's strings were laid out pretty fast. A bit Hunters meets dia de los muertos-ish. Nevertheless, Magda put in some good performances as different characters, and Nathan Lane 4 life.

Very different series from the original.
