All Things: Simon Pegg / Nick Frost / Edgar Wright

The other day, I listened to this:

#TheWorldsEnd, episode #240 of Comedy Bang Bang: The Podcast

All three of them together to promote The World's End when it came out. It's a little over an hour long and split into three segments. And though I do not generally find the Comedy Bang Bang guy very funny, everyone should listen to this. The entire second segment has Pegg pretending he's Michael Caine (and ****ing NAILING IT) and Frost acting as Sean Connery.

So good.

Edgar Wright’s ‘Collider’ Gets a New, Non-Collider Writer

Back in July 2012, the formidable filmmaking team of Edgar Wright, J.J. Abrams, and Mark Protosevich came together to begin developing a secretive sci-fi film for Paramount called Collider. Wright is still attached to direct, Abrams is producing through Bad Robot, and Protosevich—whose credits also include I Am Legend and Spike Lee’s Oldboy—wrote the screenplay.

“It’s a kind of movie I haven’t seen for a long time. There’s a particular kind of sci-fi film that I feel has been missing from our screens for a while.”

Jamie Foxx Has Joined Edgar Wright’s Next Movie, ‘Baby Driver’

For those of us who are disappointed that we’ll never get to see Edgar Wright’s version of Ant-Man, there’s a silver lining: Edgar Wright doing his own movie with no one from Disney meddling in it. The film is called Baby Driver, currently scheduled for March 2017, and Jamie Foxx has just joined the cast, alongside Ansel Elgort and Lily James, reports Deadline.

The film follows a crime boss who coerces a young, talented getaway driver to work for him. Elgort pays the driver, who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best. He must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

Well that sounds delightfully bizarre. It’s hard to say from that brief description, but I’m envisioning a Hot Fuzz-esque homage to car-porn films like Drive, Bullitt, or Getaway, starring Selena Gomez. In Scott Pilgrim and The World’s End, Edgar Wright proved he can do fist-fight choreography better as a (semi) joke than most action directors can do for serious, so I’m excited to see what he can do with the car chase.

Not exactly thrilled with the cast so far, but I have an obscene amount of faith in Edgar Wright. I keep reading rumors that, due to the soundtrack heavy nature of the plot, this is supposed to be Wright's 'musical'. That idea pleases me.

Check Out Edgar Wright’s List of His 1,000 Favorite Films

Scrolling to the bottom will reveal his favorite movies from recent years, and his only favorite from 2016 so far is The Neon Demon. Let’s hope the remaining months will change that. Some of his faves from 2015 include The Witch, The Martian, The Lobster, The Hateful Eight, Spotlight, Sicario, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Creed, Ex Machina, Carol, and Green Room.

This is a little misleading, because, for example, Green Room had festival screenings in 2015 but its theatrical release was 2016. I think the same applies to The Lobster and The Witch, so there are 4 movies that I would consider from 2016.

Also, it should be noted that he has the luxury of not including his own films, because I'd put several of them in my top 1000 for sure.
