All Things: TELEVISON

Anyone else watching From Dusk til Dawn:The Series on the El Rey network? You should be cause it's really kinda good. A few stumbles along the way and it takes some getting used to considering the repetition of the events of the first third of the movie...but the different takes/actors and filled in/retrofit plot enhancements make for a helluva fun ride. Love Rodriguez having his own network...best thing, the voice of the network(promos/commercials) is the guy who does the Machete trailers and the Grindhouse one too. It's low on programming for now, but I love the direction he has it heading in. Check it out.

Went on a binge and finally watched the rest of True Detective...

The intensity of the characters and their emotional struggles throughout the first 5 episodes or so made the resolution of the case a pretty secondary issue for me so I didn't really care that the last two episodes were much more formulaic. I just felt so exhausted in a great way watching it play out.

The series itself was just so expertly filmed and excellently acted that I look forward to another season. There's so much more to go into but ultimately I'm thrilled with how the whole thing turned out.

I also finished the last five episodes of American Horror Story, what a train wreck of episodes to end this season. I was extremely underwhelmed.

NBC's CROSSBONES Trailer Featuring John Malkovich

Synopsis:
It’s 1715 on the Bahamian island of Santa Campana, the first functioning democracy in the Americas, where the diabolical pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard (John Malkovich), reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. Part shantytown and part marauder’s paradise, this is a place like no other on Earth – and a mounting threat to international commerce.
Teach/Blackbeard has set his sights on the world’s first longitude chronometer, a device that will change society, sea-trade and global business. In a massive attack on an English vessel, Blackbeard attempts to steal the device; however, Tom Lowe, an English spy working undercover as the ship’s surgeon, destroys the chronometer before it can fall into his hands. Taken as prisoner to Santa Campana Island, Lowe must find a way to reassemble the precious device, all while trying to unfold Blackbeard’s plan… a plan that includes a threat to the English throne even worse than pirates.
From the award-winning creator of “Luther,” Neil Cross, and award-winning executive producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (“Gladiator,” “Men in Black”) comes an extraordinary action adventure with an unexpected moral center where one can’t be sure whether the pirates or the British crown are the villains. One-hour drama.

Just watch Black Sails...

Any possibly overlooked TV shows that I should consider watching? While I just started watching Walking Dead and may eventually watch Breaking Bad, I'm talking less popular shows. I really liked True Detective and would like to find something that's pretty similarly intense that I may not be aware of. I'm thinking maybe Hannibal which I've never seen but there seems to be a lot of fans here(but would be open to others as well).

Hannibal is terrific. Sick as all get out, but yeah. And it's just the right amount of episodes so that the story is all meat no filler. Second. I am a fiend for Black Sails(Starz), Vikings(History) and pretty much EVERY FX drama ever. But you should target Justified. Or The Americans. Both of those fit your off the beaten path guidelines.
