BD Horror News - TV: Loads Of Inside Info On Kevin Williamson Serial Killer Thriller

A breakdown making the rounds for Fox's untitled serial killer thriller, penned by Kevin Williamson, has revealed some new casting, along with plot details. Thanks to Bloody reader 'RRH' for his second tip of the week!

Deadline earlier reported that the series is "An edge-of-your-seat thriller about the complex relationship between a diabolical serial killer and the damaged FBI agent who took him down. After the killer escaped, the agent is reactivated and discovers that he is no longer just hunting one man, but a massive cult of serial killers created and manipulated during his time in prison."

As previously announced, the leads are both James Purefoy and Kevin Bacon with Purefoy playing "Joe Carroll", the series lead who brutally murdered 14 female students. "A devotee of Romanticism, Carroll removed his victims’ eyes as a nod to his favorite author, Poe. Captured by FBI agent Ryan Hardy, Carroll has been in Huntsville Prison ever since, plotting his next novel. After escaping from prison with a double murder, Carroll sets his diabolical masterpiece in motion."

Bacon plays alcoholic cop "Ryan Hardy" who had arrested Carroll nine years earlier. "Ryan is hauled out of retirement when Joe Carroll escapes from prison, and plunges into the details of an FBI investigation for the first time in almost a decade."

Also previously announced were Shawn Ashmore (Frozen, Mother's Day, The Day, Ruins), Jeananne Goossen ("Alcatraz"), Nathalie Zea ("Justified"), Nico Tortorella (Scream 4, Odd Thomas) and Valorie Curry (Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2) with Goossen playing "Jennifer Mason," the Special Agent In Charge of the investigation into the escape of serial killer Joe Carroll. Zea stars as "Claire Matthews," the ex-wife of Joe Carroll and once a Literature professor at Southern Methodist University. Ashmore is locked in as "Agent Riley," with the other two starring in minor reoccurring roles.

Kevin Bacon is usually solid in everything. Interested in seeing him doing tv...am I the only one that could see him doing one season and as the kicker/cliffhanger ending his character gets killed?

So did Terra Nova's cancellation just save Alcatraz? | Blastr

Now that we know Terra Nova is extinct at Fox, it's time to start pondering what effect its demise might have on another Monday night genre drama in a precarious position: Alcatraz. Could the end of Terra Nova mean another year on the Rock?

As you might have guessed, the answer is still rather hard to pin down. To get a clear picture of just where Alcatraz stands, we have to look at several other factors beyond the end of Terra Nova. For one thing, it's worth remembering that another Fox Monday night drama, House, is ending its run this season, leaving another open hour at the start of the week. For another, Fox is also juggling the fates of two other new dramas: The Finder and Touch.

The Finder isn't doing so hot, and some pundits have it pegged for cancellation already. As for Touch, it did very well in its preview back in January, but the real test lies ahead when it returns next week. And then, over on Friday night, there's Fringe, another show that seems to have a bleak future.

So, if you're keeping score, that means Alcatraz, The Finder and Fringe are all in trouble, Touch has an uncertain future, and House is no longer there to fill one of Fox's Monday timeslots. But how many shows can they really cancel? If The Finder and Alcatraz were to go the route of Terra Nova, that would leave Touch as the last rookie drama standing. How much time can Fox afford to leave open for next season?

Well, according to Bill Gorman over at TV by the Numbers, the situation is not so dire that Fox would keep an underperforming show on the air just to fill time. Cleaning house on all their new shows is probably not a happy prospect, but they've done it before.

"Leaving aside the fact that Touch had nice preview ratings, and its future is yet to be determined, the 'can't cancel them all' grasp is futile," Gorman said. "Ask the fans of the two Fox rookie dramas last season (Lone Star, The Chicago Code)."

So we've established that sending all of these shows packing is very much a possibility. The question now is will it happen, particularly where Alcatraz is concerned? It's now the last show standing on Monday night, and its recent numbers have been lower than Terra Nova's ever were. Granted, the dinosaur program was a more expensive show, but how low can Alcatraz afford to sink, especially with the season finale only three weeks away? Can this show survive?

Expert opinion is divided. Tim Surette of TV.com thinks the show is doomed already.

"If you ask me," he writes, "Touch returns next year, while Alcatraz keeps Terra Nova company in the trash pile."

But not so fast, because CB Droege at TG Daily is unconvinced.

"Yes, this is indeed bad news for dinosaur enthusiasts, but may very well be good tidings for fans of Fringe and Alcatraz, as this leaves room for the network to keep both shows, despite each of them slipping in ratings for the last few episodes," Droege said. "Unless Fox picks up another genre series in the interim, they are both relatively safe."

TV by the Numbers' Robert Seidman, meanwhile, still has Alcatraz pegged for "likely cancellation," along with The Finder and Fringe.

So, with Terra Nova out (at least on this network), can Alcatraz escape to season two?

TV Bits: Is ‘Mad Men’ Going Back in Time? Plus: ‘Game of Thrones’ Trailer, ‘Girls’ Clips, Carlton Cuse Joins ‘Bates Motel’, ‘Dexter’ and ‘Homeland’ Return Dates | /Film

I haven’t even started thinking about fall television yet, but then again, I’m not a network exec. Showtime has announced return dates for two of its big hits, the long-running Dexter and the relatively new Homeland. Michael C. Hall‘s beloved serial killer is slated to return for its seventh season on September 30 at 9 PM, followed by Season 2 of Homeland at 10 PM on the same night.

Anyone else watch Breaking In? I was really annoyed by Megan Mullaley but I like where they are going with the direction of the show. The GEEK cameo by Rowdy Roddy Piper was pretty damned sweet too.

Ok...so I sat down with the last 3 eps of THE RIVER last night. Really enjoyed them, maybe because they played better in a big chunk. Could be they were just better episodes. Nice to see Lee Tergesen(Beecher from OZ, looking a LOT like Bruce Campbell) and we finally kinda/sorta know Emmett Cole's fate. I really hope they come strong with the finale' next week. I do not think this will get renewed but if the end is satisfying enough I will sign off on it as some decent tv.

Anybody watching Smash? It's ****ing horrible but I can't stop watching...
