All Things: TELEVISON

People who saw Michael Bay & Starz home of cheesy but loveable Spartacus...you need to get past that. Telling you, BLACK SAILS gets better every week. Great characters, and an ever expanding storyline...and damned if it don't look pretty. There is a LOT of money up on the screen. If you like Game of Thrones you should dig this. Sure, there is some bodice ripping and Fabio types with their shirts always open but there is a lot of legitimacy here too. These aren't yo-ho pirates, they are ex soldiers turned thief to combat the government. There is a LOT to like here.

I'm ready for them to get out on the open water...

Rackham's 4 sided sunglasses are pretty snazzy

I sooooo want a pair. I think the way they finagled Vane's ship/crew to be the consort ship was handled perfectly. It's a ridiculous plot twist but I bought it the way they sold it, and it was necessary. I like the mystery of Flint's kept woman and am just really impressed with the show in general. What really could be lunkheaded and trashy is presented with just enough of that couched in a really kinda highbrow adventure. Supposed to be Treasure Island sorta prequel and I think, so far, it has done justice.

And Rackham is such a great little weaselly bastard. He might be my favorite character.

What was probably the series finale for DADS was on last night. I will miss that show. Made me laugh out loud at least one time per episode. For a network sitcom that's high praise. Brooklyn 99 has finally reached a nice balance. They toned down Samberg and the 2 annoying chicks and concentrated more on the really good cast around them. Terry Crews/Joe LoTruglio/Andre Braugher are just terrific.

There was an article in the LA Times this week suggesting that Dads might actually not be cancelled. It also suggested Dads was remotely funny, so I wouldn't trust it too far. Brooklyn 99 is very good, especially Crews and Braugher, but the sooner the annoying ginger chick gets hit by a bus, the better. You are right about that - she is annoying enough for two people.

Learn The Truth About Hannibal from this New Sneak Peek of Season 2 - Dread Central

I am about 6 1/2 episodes into season 1...first of all, they get away with A LOT for a tv show. This would be r-rated in a movie theater. Long lingering shots of REALLY NICE fx work. And all the meals that Lecter shares with his guests...really, the censors definitely have a different scale on this one. As much as I dig Mikklesen, I am not sure I buy his Doctor. Too foreign, too creepy. These are FBI agents and they don't get a 'let's check his closet' vibe from his almost plastic face, strange familiarity and just genuine oddness(he just smelled Will for f's sake). It's a compelling show and not like anything I have seen on a network, that's for sure.

I just finished episode 5 of Hannibal, and I completely agree with jerseydevil about the portrayal of Lecter as well as about the show in general being flawed but also compelling and worthwhile. I'll add...

What I like:
1) It's trying hard (and succeeding) to be way different.
2) It can be hokey.

What I don't like:
1) It's not as well written as it either wants to be or thinks it is. So far, there is at least one thing (even outside of Hannibal himself) each episode that is just poorly done.
2) It can be hokey.

There is at least one stupid joke in every episode of Dads that makes me laugh out loud. I dont think the show is THAT bad, but then again i'm immature.

Telling you, me too!!!! It's dopey but it is the first time in a long time that I have liked a traditional sitcom SOOOOO much.

O i almost forgot

To add to that, they are hampered by the 'mystery of the week' format that they shortchange EVERY episode. They introduce these great sociopaths and the same team that can't tell that Dr. Lecter is a little 'off' manages to suss out, almost Scooby-Doo style, how to find them. It is distracting to the better story they are trying to tell. I don't know how much of that is network mandated(to have a neat and tidy conclusion at the end of every episode) and how much of that is bad writing. The one hidden bonus in this is the guy who plays the morbidly funny one of the trio of forensic team members. Knew he looked familiar then realized he was one of the Kids in the Hall guys. Like him and the cute in a wacky way Asian gal. Lot to like, but not without it's faults.
And nothing better happen to Will's dogs, or I am out.

Hugh Dancy is really good in a twitchy way and Larry Fishburne don't never bring things down either.
