ABC aired two episodes in part because they have a very limited window to get this season on and off the air before "Dancing with the Stars" returns (which is also why there will be fewer than 13 episodes this season, when that's usually the standard for a mid-season drama), but I also think the scheduling may have worked well as a sales tool.

BD Horror News - TV: ABC's 'The River' Has "Soft" Premiere

One thing about watching a new TV series is that you risk getting attached, only to have it canceled before the debut season ends. This is why I typically wait until the second season is announced to jump aboard (although I took the day one dive with "American Horror Story" and "The Walking Dead").

THR writes that the two-hour premiere of ABC's "The River," which, while soft in its returns and declining every half hour, still topped last season's comparable mid-season time slot entry, "Off The Map."

"The River" pulled in a 2.4 among adults 18-49, with a 2.5 at 9:00 p.m. and a 2.2 at 10:00 p.m.., and gave the net its strongest showing in the time slot since the fall finale of "Dancing With the Stars." ABC averaged a 2.4 among 18-49-ers for the night and 7.6 million viewers.

While off to a weak start, there's still plenty of hope for the new series from Paranormal Activity creator Oren Peli -- but it can just as easily capsize into the abyss...

And btw...I never used the word "freaky" in my IM's last night. I did use the words "weird" and "creepy", though. :D

While being a little over the top and silly sometimes, I found myself impressed with the show, in general. It was quite intense (dare I say "scary") for a regular network show...and it was a fun 2 hours. :)

Serial Killer TV Show By Kevin Williamson Finds Baddie | Shock Till You Drop

The Vampire Diaries and Scream's Kevin Williamson is gearing up for another TV show. It has no title, yet, but it concerns a serial killer who creates a network - a cult - of serial killers.

Kevin Bacon was recently cast as the series' FBI agent, a rare turn on the small screen for the actor.

Now, Deadline reports James Purefoy (Rome, Resident Evil) is the latest actor to sign on board.





The site says Purefoy will play the show's main serial killer.

Marcos Siega is directing the pilot for Fox; his credits include The Vampire Diaries, Dexter and True Blood. Should the show go beyond the pilot, 15 episodes will be ordered up.

House of Lies. Wow. That last ep was not something I'd ever thought would make it to TV... I guess you could call it a corn montage?
 
I guess it's related but I just downloaded the first and second season of Justified. I've only watched one episode so far but man, I like the feel of this show.

Second to last episode Raylen ejected a bullet from his clip, dropped it on the chest of the guy he just floored, and said 'The next one will be coming faster'. If that ain't pure poetic tough guy speak...well I don't know what is.
 
Anyone see that last episode of Shameless? I think it was one of the best yet. That confrontation between Sheila and Franks mom was awesome.
 
jerseydevil, do you by any chance know when Fox will announce whether or not Terra Nova is coming back? I could have sworn they had until the end of January to decide for production reasons... but here we are in the middle of February.

Nothing yet...on them or Fringe. I know there was a 'send-in' campaign for Terra Nova. House getting the 'don't let the door hit you in the ass' notice was a bad sign for both. I will post as soon as I see something but the most current source for TN rumors seems to be Blastr. You may want to keep checking there.
 
It's time for House. Also... I watched two and a half episodes of Alcatraz and I just cannot be bothered to watch any more. Boring. And Hugo is just too ****ing fat to look at when he doesn't have funny lines written for him.

And I say that as a big fat ****.
 
First 7 Minutes of NBC’s New Drama, AWAKE



My most-anticipated new show of the 2011-2012 television season is Awake. Jason Isaacs stars as a cop who’s in a car accident with his family, and now he’s living in two realities: one where his son (Dylan Minnette) survived and one where his wife (Laura Allen) survived. The question is which one is the dream and which one is reality? It’s a terrific premise that could easily run out of steam in a short amount of time, but it’s more original than almost any other new show on network TV. Hopefully, they find a way to build on the premise rather than use it as a hook and nothing more.

The first seven minutes have gone online, and after watching them, I’m still jazzed for this show. I like the way it’s shot and the pacing, and (less surprising) Isaacs is great. If you’ve seen the extended trailer, there’s not a tone of new stuff, but now you can see it in context. Hit the jump to check out the first seven minutes of Awake. The series premieres on Thursday, March 1st at 10/9c on NBC.

Jason Isaacs alone makes this must see for me. If you didn't watch Brotherhood back in the day...you should.
 
Jonny Lee Miller Set to Play Sherlock Holmes in CBS Series ELEMENTARY

Unsurprisingly, CBS is moving forward with a Sherlock Holmes series hot on the heels of the success of BBC’s fantastic Holmes update Sherlock. The American version is titled Elementary, and Deadline reports that CBS has settled on a lead for the pilot: Jonny Lee Miller. Miller previously starred on the ABC series Eli Stone and most recently appeared in an arc on Showtime’s Dexter. Elementary is a contemporary take on the Arthur Conan Doyle character and finds Holmes living in New York City. Given that it’s on CBS, we can presumably expect a heavy procedural aspect with little to no reason to tune in every single week. Nevertheless, should CBS pick the pilot up to series, the show is likely to be a hit; audiences over 40 love them some crime procedurals that don’t ask them to remember things from one week to the next.

BD Horror News - 'Lost' Star Terry O'Quinn Moves To ABC's '666 Park Avenue'

The Stepfather and "Lost" star Terry O'Quinn is back on the supernatural drama beat and back at ABC with a lead role in the network’s drama pilot "666 Park Avenue," Deadline reports.

Based on the Alloy book series by Gabriella Pierce, "the project centers on a young couple who accept an offer to manage one of the most historic apartment buildings in New York City. Unwittingly, they begin to experience supernatural occurrences, which complicate and endanger the lives of everyone in the building." O’Quinn will play Gavin, the building’s owner.
