All Things: TELEVISON

I thought I was the only one who was really digging Alcatraz.

My DVR is recording Sleepy Hollow, so the next step would be for me to actually watch it. I hope nobody releases any candidates for best video game of all time in the next day or so.

Yikes. The headless horseman with a machine gun? Sleepy Hollow is almost on the same cheese level as the Kevin Sorbo version of Hercules. Now I remember why I don't watch network shows anymore. Shame too since I love the original story.

I still want to know what was happening on Alcatraz damn it

Count me in too. It wasn't perfect...but it coulda got better. And Sam Neill is never bad.

Oh and Under the Dome ended with the writers clearly having NO idea how to proceed with the story. Pretty uneven altogether but I think that is a result of the success changing it from a finite series to open ended. Hopefully in the hiatus they will get a grip on a direction for the story. Maybe cause it was a summertime show and not fighting with others for viewing, but it wasn't terrible...just sidetracked too much.

I liked Sleepy Hollow, but the cheese was over the top. So, John Cho got his "head" knocked off?

I see this going the same way as Alcatraz..

UNDER THE DOME Season 1 Finale Recap: “Curtains” | Collider

Can anyone imagine if the series had ended there? It might have been the worst drama series with the most viewers to have ever been allowed to live for that long on TV. All it showed us in the end was that most of what we watched was a waste of time, and blatant filler (which we could tell along the way, most of which went by the name “Maxine”). Though the show built up an interesting premise with the mini-dome, its slaughter of its characters and confusion about the protagonists (Linda and Phil, for instance, both useless and pretty much on the side of evil) left it a muddled mess. The worst part about Under the Dome was its squandered potential.

While the series lacked any believable interactions among its leads, it also populated the rest of the town with silent, faceless lemmings who were controlled by Big Jim like zombies. They riot, stay calm, pray and show up for hangings all on command. And the Dome wants to protect them from something? As I said very early in the season, it seems more likely that the Dome had the sense to quarantine them away from the rest of the world, and good riddance.

under the dome curtains britt robertson colin ford mackenzie lintzBy all accounts it has sounded like Under the Dome was a ghastly adaptation of the original Stephen King novel, but the fact that it couldn’t — through thirteen episodes — ever find its own voice and carve a niche for itself as a worthwhile series illustrates its problems as systemic. Many of us have spent the duration of the season hoping the show would improve, and there were glimmers of hope. But CBS’s decision to elongate it into a second season was horrendous for the momentum of the series, and much of the season felt reminiscent to Lost‘s “lost years” (remember “Stranger In A Strange Land”? i.e. “Jack’s Tattoos,” starring Bai Ling?). To hit that lull so quickly though is telling.

Yet there’s a curiosity with Under the Dome, and an optimism for it that can’t be explained. Even after this non-finale, I’m sure CBS will pique our interest next year to find out what the story is behind the egg, so we need to remind ourselves of a truism: pink stars are falling in line / this show is so bad it’s a crime / we don’t need an egg for a sign / that this show is not worth the time.

Oh man...perfect summation.

I liked Alcatraz, too! Love me some Hurley.
My main problem with Under the Dome is that a lot of the acting is bad. The teenagers, particularly.
Good acting can make up for cheese in a story, which I think is going to be the case with Sleepy Hollow. Also, it has better quality effects and directing, as did Alcatraz. Under the Dome reminds me of Saturday morning shows from the 70's, like The Secrets of Isis and Electra Woman & Dyna Girl.:rolleyes2:

just watched the Under the Dome finale. So they channeled their inner Signs, Contact and The Stand.

I was thinking precisely "well, here go again Lost-style."

Watched "Dads" last night. Thought it was decent for a pilot. The cast was good so they just need to decide on a direction (office stuff? Dad stuff? Family stuff?) and go with it.

Ok, so Dads was verrrrrrrry sitcom-y, setup-punchline-commercial. Maybe it's cause I like the cast, but I actually laughed a few times. Line of the night, 'My Dad can clear his throat through the first 50 minutes of a 90 minute movie'.

Brooklyn 99 was good. Kinda odd though. A little OFFICE-y and not a traditional comedy. The subplot with Andre Braugher's character being gay was a little shoehorned, but I kinda like this show so far.

I think Brooklyn has a future, I think Dads will maybe get a move, and eventually a cancellation. 8pm was a weird start time.

Watching Boon from Animal House play a crotchety old man was depressing for me.

I agree that Brooklyn 99 was odd, but in a good way for me. Andy Samberg was surprisingly reined in for a character that could have been stupidly over the top, so I was pleasantly surprised. I hope it gets a chance.

Agree completely. Still, nice to see Peter Riegert getting work. Is Martin Mull what? 100 years old by now. I like the supporting cast on Brooklyn. Terry Crewes is terribly underrated as far as his comedy chops, and Joe LoTruglio is NEVER bad. I think a few episodes in they will catch a groove but the premiere was a little uneven.

Brooklyn is on my DVR so I'll probably get to it on the weekend (why couldn't GTA V come out in June?), but Terry Crewes was the best thing about Everybody Hates Chris, and there were plenty of good things about that show. Wrapping up yesterday's SAMCRO now and then it is back to Los Santos.

Sleepy Hollow was strangely watchable. The lead had a cut-rate Cumberbatchity to him. Odd that they would SPOILERS have some star power that was used as cannon fodder(Harold, Clancy Brown) and just as weird that they used a comic actor(Orlando Jones) for a serious part but there is a bit to like here. Lots of mythology already offered up and although it looks like they are going to go to a 'monster-of-the-week' format like Grimm, unlike Grimm they have peppered in enough personality and potential diversity that I actually have hopes for this show. And the Horseman with a shotgun was pretty cool, sorry it just was.
