All Things: TELEVISON

It followed the French version very closely. They used most of the same character names, and several of the actors look a lot like their counterparts. I was curious after watching the original, and I'm happy that they're following it closely instead of spoiling the concept with a loose interpretation. If it stays that way, this version will help me understand some of the things that I originally missed, or that got lost in translation.
The French version was very good. IMO it was much creepier, but it's only been one episode so that could change.

See, I tried to watch the French version and I found it a slog. Creepy, atmospheric...and booooorrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiing. I maybe gave up on it too soon. Good to know this is sticking to the same story so far. I saw Jeremy Sisto was on it...that guy just keeps working. Good agent.

I know what you mean about it being slow, but it did pay off in my opinion. It also had nudity, so that was a plus. I don't have HBO so Sundance is considered hardcore for me laugh:. The first A&E episode was faster, and I don't remember for sure, but it may have covered more than the first episode of the original. It seemed like they covered a lot of ground last night.

Seeing Kristen Schaal's name reminded me, I've been watching some episodes of Bob's Burgers (finally) and that is a pretty enjoyable little show.

I may be getting Schaaled out because Bob's Burgers does not have the same draw for me it once had. It's getting kinda like the Simpsons in the respect that I watch it simply because I have BEEN watching it.

Well, I've been watching the first season, so maybe the more recent ones aren't as good?

Schaal does alright with the occasional Daily Show correspondent bit and I mostly liked the stand-up special she did a couple years ago, but it's not hard to imagine getting tired of her.

Hey...what they did with it was their problem. But they presented it as him...alone. I realize that they couldn't have gone too far with that...but c'mon, they couldn't even finish their first episode. At this point it is a barely disguised Y:Last Man. I'm not saying that they did anything technically wrong, I just think it was presented dishonestly. It's the principle of the thing.

They probably thought that having the woman show up would be a huge surprise that no one was expecting and all the viewers would be amazed. But the reviews and the internet went and spoiled it. The best move probably would have been to go the entire abbreviated season and make it the big finale moment, but coming up with 6.5 hours of crazy things for him to do might be tough. It could easily turn into a bad SNL sketch. There are undoubtedly more options with a drama. Oh well. I'm more concerned with the guy's giant beard. Those things are as annoying as his costar and have gotten to be more prevalent than that side view oncoming car crash shot.

You really don't like that side view crash shot do you? The first time I saw it used was in Adaptation...and it is a stunning use of the shot. I agree that it has become the go to in movies/tv to the point that it is kinda dull at this point. But that shot in Adaptation, I remember actually having the wind knocked out of me due to the palpable impact.

Bates Motel got off to an ok start, with Norman having fits and seeing folks who weren't there...but then it got kinda boring. I like Dylan, but I would say 40% of the show was dedicated to him and his story just isn't that interesting. First episode, so I will give it the benefit of a doubt...but they better start getting more into it instead of teasing around the outskirts and then pulling back.

Oh, and the Following is getting a little same-y. Might be time to delete that from the dvr. By the way...is ANYONE watching the 'edgier' episodes of Family Guy on TBS? I say edgier only because they take every commercial break to remind you of that. You can't tell from watching the 'boring-er' shows. Fox may have made the right call on that one.

Yeah i have pretty much lost interest in the show. I have the last 6 episodes sitting on the dvr that i havent watched yet.

The last 2 episodes fixed most of what was wrong with the show and now it can be great again and it probably won't get a 3rd season. Oy.

It's pretty amazing how badly the writers ****ed this show up. Such a shame.

I think it'll get a third season...the ratings have dipped, but still been decent. But yeah, talk about sophomore slump. That show was primed to be a hot commodity for a minute and now, fighting for it's life. I read that article and...they gave the HEADLESS horseman a head? Talk about not having a clue. I tried to watch the first season and just got tired of all the filler to make it to the magic number of episodes. Maybe the author's proposal of a shorter season will help. The big 4 need to really stop clinging to the outdated model of trying to please the sponsors. You want the sponsors to be happy...well a good show, tighter and more focused, will bring in ratings. Hell, the first 2 seasons of Breaking Bad were what...8 episodes. You go by how much story you have to tell...not by filling content.

The first time I saw it was in a season finale of Alias (not sure which came first then), and yeah, the first time it was shocking and brilliant. But now it has been done to death and I can always tell it is coming when I get an interior side view shot where you can see more out the window than you can see the person yapping. So the crash ends up being the opposite of a surprise. Like there being a mole on 24.
