All Things: TELEVISON

The Orville is good if a bit poorly... edited? The resolution occurred last night within 3 minutes before the end of the hour. Is the schedule changing because the channel that airs it up here is showing a new Ep Thursdays now.

Oh and Emmys... typical tire fire. Snubs all around and handing out trophies to the same people as usual.

Watched both Star Trek eps last night on Space channel in Canada (it surely was not allowed to be bid by any other channel LOL)... I'd give the pilot a 6/10 and the second ep a 7/10. Enough promise, but some absolutely unbelievable stuff for just 88(?) minutes.

Big props to CBS for having late football knock back the airing 18 mins. Because we always need to watch 60 Minutes. Even up here things were delayed. Can you imagine writing that contract... 'yeah, you must air the show at the exact second as we do on CBS'. Is the rest of the series streaming-only in the US? I don't even want to know what happens if the stream fails... 'sorry we can't air it because the US stream died'.

I hate to say this but I'm really digging The Orville. The writing is a bit juvenile (comic relief can be a bit more intellectual then sounding like a 12 year old talking). The special effects are about what you'd expect if not more. There's the obligatory gay male alien couple who lay eggs. Beastiality (human wife cheats with alien). Cheap throwbacks to pop culture.

Everything should tell me to not like this show, yet I'm into it and am rooting for every character whose names I still need to learn.

Star Trek it ain't. But a nice tip of the cap to Star Trek? Sure. Right down to the Whoopie Goldberg ripoff.

I mean the simulation program with a Mexican gun standoff turned dance contest? How can we lose?

And I don't have to pay extra to watch it on a stand alone streaming service!

I really, really, REALLY wanted to hate it. But I can't. It is not what I expected at all. I was dreading "Family Guy in Space" or a complete mocking of the scifi genre, but there is actually some good story telling there. The Orville has made it to the DVR list.

I loved the first 2 episodes. And I can't stand "Family Guy". I love how the humor is just "the way people talk" (it's the kind of stupid jokes I make) interspersed with a theme/message.

Ghosted premiere tonight on FOX was... Ghostbusters meets MIB or RIPD. Should be gone by Christmas right?

Much like Orville, it's incredibly stupid and not the best writing. And much like Orville, I dug it juuust enough to stick around. Plus I will support Craig Robinson as much as humanly possible.

The half hour timeframe is good. Not too long to make me start drifting away.

So yes, probably gone by December.

"The Serfsons" were quite good last night. Ep was a spoof of GoT, The Hobbit and other fantasy books/games.
