All Things:Video Game Movies

I saw "Tomb Raider" this weekend.

Having not played the recent versions of the game*, I'd say that the movie wasn't phenomenal, but I felt like it worked.

My fear, especially after "Assassin's Creed," was that it'd take itself too seriously. But there was some levity early on that helped set up relationships and made them have some meaning later on. It coulda been a little punchier, but it worked as a movie overall and didn't feel too much like a "video game movie." I'm sure there were scenes lifted right from the game, but they didn't feel forced or otherwise out of joint.

Alicia Vikander was good. Not that anyone would have really questioned her credentials, but she made the character work well. She added something to the role, which was mostly basic franchise startup stuff.

So, anyway, good time. Enjoyed it. If they make more of them, I'd be in.

* I do have the one this one is based on, I think. But have never gotten around to playing it.

I was a sonic junky. Except for that music when he was drowning.

At least drowning made sense for a hedgehog.

There were TMNT games where you would drown if you were underwater longer than a minute. They are turtles, dammit! rolleyes:
