Comics A.M. - Inker Rick Ketcham Passes Away

Details are sparse, but Ketcham’s Facebook quickly filled with tributes from friends and colleagues who hailed his kindness, his professionalism, and his willingness to mentor others. Ketcham worked on a number of titles for DC Comics, Marvel, Dark Horse, Image Comics and other publishers, including The Amazing Spider-Man, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, G.I. Joe, New X-Men, Runaways and Venom.
 
Obituary: Ottawa animator Bob Walker was nominated for Academy Award

Walker started as a layout artist on Roller Coaster Rabbit, a Roger Rabbit short, and later became head of layout for the Florida studio, overseeing scenes for feature films such as The Rescuers Down Under (1990), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), The Lion King (1994), Mulan (1998) and Lilo & Stitch (2002).

Brother Bear, co-directed by Walker, was nominated for an Academy Award in the best animated feature category.
 
Robert Rietti, Expert Voice Dubber for James Bond Villains, Dies at 92

Robert Rietti, “the man of a thousand voices” who dubbed for several James Bond villains and uttered every single Orson Welles line heard in the 1972 film Treasure Island, died on April 3, The Times of London reported. He was 92.

When filmmakers wanted to re-record dialogue after production was done or if they needed lines translated to other languages for movies to play in other countries, they often turned to the prolific Rietti, who worked for more than seven decades as an actor and voiceover artist.

Many of his 256 acting credits found on IMDb list his character as “voice, uncredited,” and the London native said he spoke for an incredible 98 characters alone on Waterloo (1970), which starred Rod Steiger, Christopher Plummer and Welles, a longtime friend.

I had never heard of this guy. The whole article is highly recommended.

Monte Merrick Dies; Writer Penned 1990 film ‘Memphis Belle’

Monte L. Merrick, an accomplished and successful playwright, novelist and screenwriter probably best known for the screenplay for the film “Memphis Belle,” died in Santa Monica on March 24, following a battle with cancer . He was 65.

He also penned the 1997 Disney TV version of “Oliver Twist,” starring Richard Dreyfuss and Elijah Wood; films including 1994 rodeo story “8 Seconds,” 1992 Tom Selleck starrer “Mr. Baseball” and the Lee Grant-directed 1989 dramedy “Staying Together”; and the TV movie “Miracle at Midnight.” His plays, produced Off Broadway in New York and throughout the country at regional theaters, include “Starry Night,” “Open Heart,” “Hell of a Town” and “Cat Feet.” His novels include “Shelter,” published in many languages, and two recent works, “The Merlin Pool” and “The Crimson Vortex,” published by Amazon.
