The Rock Talked About Learning ‘Style, Swag’ From Rowdy Roddy Piper
http://uproxx.com/prowrestling/2015/08/the-rock-roddy-piper-tribute/
Johnson talks about what a major influence Piper was on his career and persona, and expressed gratitude for the time they were able to spend together. You know you led a good life when you inspired someone like The Rock:

RIP legend. I first met this wrestling icon when I was 12yrs old when he was wrestling my pops the WWE. For weeks and weeks after that meeting I would have my mom set up a video camera in the kitchen as I would “become” Hot Rod and mimmic and emulate his every word, style, swag, heat, cool cockiness and all delivered with his classic smile (and my awful 12yr old afro). He was a huge influence on me as a kid and an even bigger one when I became The Rock in the WWE. Thank you Roddy for all the talks, all the stories (especially the crazy ones about my grandfather and grandmother ) all the advice and most importantly.. all the memories of you entertaining us fans. You’re missed my friend. Heaven just got a lil’ rowdier… Rest in love ~ DJ #JustWhenTheyThinkTheyHaveAllTheAnswers #HotRodChangesTheQuestions

And let's not forget what he did for Hogan's career. You always need a good bad guy. And he may be the only wrestler in history who was just as likable no matter if he was good or bad.

I can't find the words to describe the sorrow in my heart upon learning the news of my dear friend, Roddy Piper, passing away. He was my closest friend in the business, a man that schooled me and guided me throughout my career. In fact, if it wasn't for Roddy Piper reaching out to help me, I'm sure I would've been a mere footnote in wrestling. He was always there for me. He was family to me, a brother who loved me and was there for me through my darkest days. He was the only wrestler to come visit me when I suffered a stroke in 2002. He totally made me at Wrestlemania 8 in our classic match. Passing a torch that many from that era couldn't conceive of doing. We always called each other "cuz" because we were so close. I loved you Roddy, and I'll miss you and your laugh for the rest of my days. I'm stunned and the hole in my heart will widen as it sinks in that I lost a brother of such great worth. What a tragic loss to all that knew him.

'Rowdy' Roddy Piper Dies at 61 From Cardiac Arrest

Well, crap.

On a general level, there's no denying Roddy Piper is one of the absolute greatest pro wrestlers in history.

On a personal level, Roddy Piper was one of the main reasons I got into pro wrestling.
Roddy Piper was one of the main reasons I got out of pro wrestling and into college.
Roddy Piper was indirectly for me meeting one of the absolute best friends and greatest people I will ever know.

Rest in Peace, Hot Rod.

Wow he sounded a whole lot older then 61 in that TMZ tape ... RIP Roddy - you were my favorite!

A week later and this still is bumming me out...

And Now, A Loving Tribute To Rowdy Roddy Piper Poking People In The Eyes
http://uproxx.com/prowrestling/2015/08/rowdy-roddy-piper-eyepoke-tribute-video/

Our new favorite tribute, however, comes from World Wrestling News and is just two and a half minutes of Roddy Piper poking people in the eyes, set to Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes.” It’s one of those things you didn’t know that you needed, but are happy to have. John Cusack should stand outside somebody’s window holding up a laptop playing this video.

Make sure you watch long enough for Ric Flair to show up, because The Nature Boy always sold Piper’s eye pokes like he’d been shot in the chest with an arrow. We’ll continue to miss you, Hot Rod, and we hope you’re up in Heaven no-selling an atomic drop from St. Peter and jabbing your fingers into his eyes.

Sorry, it's a facebook link, so I can't even pull it up at work, much less embed it.
