John “Dawk” Stilwell has passed away unexpectedly earlier this week. He was a musician and electronics engineer from Ithaca, NY, who started working with the local band Elf in early 60s. When Roger Glover and Ian Paice started producing Elf in 1972, Roger liked the sound of Ronnie’s bass so much, that he commissioned Dawk to do the same modification for his Rickenbacker. Dawk then went on to work for Rainbow and reunited Deep Purple customizing and repairing their gear. He recently worked for Manowar, with whom he was about to go out on tour.
Wexler made his major feature debut with "America, America" in 1963, and the next decade and more would be littered with classics. "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?," "In The Heat Of The Night," "Once Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest," "Days Of Heaven," "American Graffiti," and more all found Wexler's talented eye on set. He was Oscar-nominated five times for Best Cinematography, winning twice, for 'Virginia Woolf' and Hal Ashby's "Bound For Glory."

The Stern Show was saddened to learn of the death of one of the most notable Wack Packers to ever be heard on the Howard channels – the one and only Riley Martin. Specifics on the cause of Riley's death are still unclear, but he had recently been experiencing "significant health issues."
"Riley, to me, was one of the greats," Howard said Wednesday morning. "We love you. We will miss you."
"The Riley Martin Show" was broadcast on Howard 101 from 2006 until 2015. The subject matter for Martin's show often revolved around his alleged personal experiences with extraterrestrial beings, specifically an alien race known as the Biaviians. In 1990, Martin penned his book "The Coming of Tan," which outlined his incredible account of being abducted by the Biaviians in 1953 at the age of 7. The leader of the Biaviians, O-Qua Tangin Wann (also known as Tan), is listed as a co-author of that book.

Robert Balser, animation director for the Beatles‘ Yellow Submarine film, died on Monday (Jan. 4) after suffering respiratory failure. He was 88.
Balser later produced television’s Jackson Five cartoon series, and directed the inventive “Den” segment of 1981’s Heavy Metal, among other notable projects. But Yellow Submarine, with its eye-popping color palette, quippy dialogue, outlandish characters and psychedelic imagery, stands as his most notable achievement.
