This is a real shame. Marty had an incredible voice. Miracles is certainly his high point to me. A vocal performance right up there with Marvin Gaye.

I was a student in San Fran in the early 90's and remember him playing an outdoor set near city hall. I think it was some sort of civil rights/protest concert. I didn't go to the show, not even being aware of it until I heard the music finding its way through the buildings to my apartment that afternoon. But once I heard his voice I opened the windows as far as I could and listened to him singing Miracles and his solo hit called Hearts, among others. Still remember it vividly a quarter century later.

RIP

One of Scott Wilson's best (as well as Stacey Keech). The movie will mess with your mind ...

Huge loss here in the PNW. In addition to his philanthropy he literally saved some professional sports in Seattle and Portland by keeping both the Seahawks and Blazers in their respective towns. Hasn't really any heirs and the scuttlebutt is his sister will sell off his sports team - the Hawks, Blazers and part ownership of Sounders FC, which is a huge worry for local fans.

Additionally he built up probably the biggest museum devoted to RnR in the "Experience Music Project" (now known as the Museum of Pop Culture) and it lives up to the hype. He also was claimed by Quincy Jones "to play guitar and sing like Jimi Hendrix." Believe it or not he could play the guitar.

And lastly he raised and gave vast amounts of to charities and science. Tremendous loss.
