AllThings:NotWorthStartingANewThreadOver

Can someone sum up why a LOT of my little niche fave websites/sources are claiming they may go under/need donations?

They claim some sort of changes in Web laws and advertising, but I am too old to savvy. Can someone dumb it down for me?

Legendary CEO Thomas Tull, Who Pushed for ‘Pacific Rim’ and ‘Godzilla’, Resigns
http://collider.com/legendary-ceo-thomas-tull-resigns/

Wow. That's truly a shame. Whenever I have seen or heard this guy, he always seemed more like 'one of us' instead of one of them. Legendary was a strong genre supporter and he was the flag waver and cheerleader of their properties. I figured once he sold to Asian concerns the playing field would change. Apparently more than I expected. I truly hope he takes his geek cred and enthusiasm somewhere else and continues to try to get quality stuff made. To draw a parallel, he reminds me of Todd McFarlane, who turned his passions into a business. Legendary was a sure fire sign for me, at least in the past, of quality. Now, it's just another overseas concern. We(the United States) are becoming less and less of a factor in the movie business as overseas box office becomes more important. Sad day.

On the bright side he is still going to oversee the new Dune movie. I am hoping that he can bring about a film worthy of the book which IMO the 1984 film was not. It's a very difficult adaptation being that the book blossoms because it relies so heavily on the real-time internal dialogues that put you into the characters of the story. Honestly, I'm not sure how well it can be done because you can only do so much of the internal dialogue whisper in a movie before it becomes odd, but here's to hoping he can pull it off.

I loved Pacific Rim and with the departure of GDT and Tull, I am concerned about PRII and the franchise.

Once GDT handed it over, it was lost. It is being made by an Asian company for the overseas market, where the first made most of it's money.

Flying Lotus’ Grotesque ‘Kuso’ Film Was Too Much For Sundance
http://uproxx.com/music/flying-lotus-kuso-sundance-walk-out/

Flying Lotus‘ new movie Kuso was too gross for Sundance attendees. According to accounts of the movie’s screening, many attendees up and left the experimental producer’s gross-out futuristic horror flick. And hearing the descriptions of key scenes, it’s hard to blame them.

According to The Verge, Kuso features shots of an erect penis being mutilated, a man having sex with a talking boil (and that boil attempting to talk with a mouth full of semen), and a cockroach emerging from George Clinton’s ass, Here’s how the website describes the steady stream of people deciding they’ve had enough.

“Anecdotally speaking, watching fellow moviegoers leave one by one was like witnessing a real-time trigger-warning test. A large chunk of the audience left my screening early, when a boil-covered woman choked a man with a strap until he covered half her face with semen that looked like a muted version of Nickelodeon slime. But the walk-outs continued in a consistent stream up to the final scene.”

There is a trailer at the link. It is too NSFW to post.

Intrigued?
