Any deal(s) we make?.

Possibly, provided there is no term left on the contract. Otherwise they eat into your 50 SPC limit, and you’re stuck trying to unload them next year if they’ve still got term. I’m too lazy to look at the specifics, and if I leave the mobile app page it’s logs me out, so you’re on your own for the research part..

You went and ruined my idea with logic… I totally didn’t even think of the fact these aren’t all going to be expiring contracts so Nevermind… and I don’t want to do the research either.

I have always thought it was a big mistake to let Lewie go. Who would really rather have Lizotte at 4C?

Trevor Lewis (age 35) signed a 1 year, $800,000 contract with the Calgary Flames on Jul. 28, 2021. The contract has a cap hit of $800,000.

Blake Lizotte's (age 24) salary is $800,000 and his cap hit is $800,000 for the 2021-22 season.

I fully understand the comparison to today, but decision to let Lewie go was made 3 years ago. Trevor might have made a better mentor for some of the kids.

...at 33 years old.
While occupying cap space and roster spot for one of those kids.
Justin Williams' absence notwithstanding, I don't think this team lacks for veteran leadership.

I liked Lewie just as much as the next fan, but with today's signing, the role of taking the big hit that shifts momentum to the other team is now filled by Blake Lizotte.

Rusty, I'd also like to add without Sutter standing on his throat...pretty sure we would not be getting the same player. See also: Lewis' last two seasons with the Kings.

Ok, lets.

2014-15 Los Angeles Kings NHL 73 9 16 25 14 +8
2015-16 Los Angeles Kings NHL 75 8 8 16 20 -10
2016-17 Los Angeles Kings NHL 82 12 12 24 30 -6 Sutter Fired 4/10/2017
2017-18 Los Angeles Kings NHL 68 14 12 26 25 -6
2018-19 Los Angeles Kings NHL 44 3 9 12 9 -9
2019-20 Los Angeles Kings NHL 56 6 6 12 16 -7

And since then.
2020-21 Winnipeg Jets NHL 56 5 5 10 2 +7
2021-22 Calgary Flames NHL 62 4 9 13 8 -3

Throat standing or propping up? Cuz this past summer Lewis signed a UFA contract to play for that same Darryl Sutter.

Heh. Rusty, I think we are saying the same thing and to your credit: you are being very concise and clear about the Lewis option/opinion. Where I was being vague, lazy and super-jokey in a type-it-send-it-they-know-what-I-mean kind of way.

For clarity's sake: My post was about Lewis being horr-if-ying to watch the last two seasons with the Kings (enthusiastic mistakes are still mistakes)and being that kind of player on Sutter's team is not an option. Yes, the numbers are the numbers but playing with accountability works for Trevor/Darryl (in an eye test from my couch). Whereas if he came back to the Kings, my guess is he'd fall back into the same pattern of behavior and Todd would just give him a lot of side-eye.

Ahhhh, so when you said "I'd like to add..." you're adding to my argument, not VCRW's. I'll work on my reading comprehension skills. Or maybe give up day drinking.

Never been sold on Lizotte. Keep thinking he will be squashed like a bug sooner than later. Though he has shown a bit more to his game this year than face off wins, he is still a placeholder in my view.

And Lewie was one of the top PK specialists in the league. Kings could have used some help in that area the last couple of years.

There is something kind of sublimely comical in discussing the minutiae of whether Lizotte or TL would have been more impactful on this season.

When that line was clicking this season they were a joy to watch though.

And who CAN'T forget Lewie stripping Hamuis of the puck, poke checking it to Stoll for the short-side over the shoulder of Schneider to knock out the Nucks? Sorry, can't help it when I think of Lewie...

No. Just no no no. Enough with bringing back some old retreads to mentor the kids. Somehow Lizotte has demonstrated AMAZING work ethic and plays his ass off without Lewis or Clifford or any other fan favorite from 5+ years ago on the team.

Please don't take that as a personal attack is it was not directed at you per se, but rather the crowd which seems to think that we need to keep some old vet on the team or else the prospects will just coast and show zero compete.

I don’t want Lewie back. But I also wouldn’t have let him go in the first place.

Ask Darryl how much he is worth right now to the Flames.

I was always a huge Trevor Lewis fan. The guy’s work ethic and dedication to the team was always something to be admired.

It was Turcotte who was supposed to make Lewie expendable. Blake Lizotte was on no one’s list of keepers.

Are we living in the past? (yes Jethro Tull pun regarding old song). Lizotte is one of the fastest skaters on the club. He plays with a tenacity that I am sure is both encouraging and inspiring to fellow teammates. He plays with the heart of a wolf and will never give up on a puck all long as he has legs and lungs. He scores or helps the line to score on a semi consistent basis.

In the make up of the Kings today Lewis and Lizotte wouldn't even be assigned the same role.

Any deals we make
And every vow we break
Every smile we fake
Every claim we stake
I'll be watching you..... Blake!

To repeat, no one wants Trevor Lewis back… that has never been suggested. The comment was about the decision to let him go 3 seasons back. Lewie is on a team good enough to win the Cup this year. I’m happy for him.

I have never been a huge believer in Lizotte. But I am happy he is currently on the roster with Vilardi and Kupari getting moved to wing and Turcotte having spent most of his career on IR. There is no better 4C available. Hence 2 more years at a very reasonable cost.
