***Boston Bruins vs. LA Kings GDT 10/21/23 7:30pm on BSW***

Gutcheck - how? Swayman was really good and Kings hit a couple posts.
Bruins are one the elite teams in the East. They’re big, physical and fast. The frustration of dominating play for 20 minutes and being down 1. The PP going 0-fer. The Bruins getting two lucky bounce goals. All of that creates as much of a gutcheck moment as possible this early in the season. The Kings effort waned halfway through the 3rd. That needs to be cleaned up.

Disapointing game to watch for sure. The Kings have the speed, passing seemed to be good but no finish. I was hoping Byfield would get one today but he hit the post. The kids needs a break.

0-3 at home is pathetic. Especially for a team that is supposed to take that next step. Right now they are still a one and done team, however it’s a long season. Arizona is not a push over as they have a better record than the Kings.

All true but that’s also just hockey. Not to be too semantic but I question calling it a “gutcheck” vs. just a plain old loss. They outshot the Bruins and had lots of grade A chances. Kempe stopped early on gave this game that ominous feel that ended up bearing out.

PP is definitely disappointing and they have not adjusted yet with the loss of Vilardi and Durzi. The time was clearly spent this offseason on the PK which was way more important and its early success is an encouraging sign.

Kings were in it most of the game. They had chances (Danaults breakaway) but goaltending saved Bs buts until they got the lead and their system took over. Third goal was the killer.

This whole game just had that feeling that it was not going to break our way. So many quality chances generated through 2 periods that didn't materialize that led to some frustration towards the end. It just felt like Boston's night the way Swayman was playing.

Not sure what to say about that one other than it's a different game if the kings score first on their multitude of chances. That said they didn't, so they had to do it the hard way and that didn't work. Happy Laf got one though, now he needs more.

Textbook road game by Bruins, and stellar goaltending by Swayman, especially early.

New PK system works, except when they win a puck along the boards they shouldn’t, and it winds up in our net.

Talbot wasn’t the problem.

We play way better on the road, maybe because they don’t think and just play.

Swayman stole that game at critical points in the game. It happens, just wish it didn’t happen on Kopitar night.

Swayman did not steal that game.
The Bruins wore the Kings down on two of those goals, by just outplaying them and tiring them out. This was a good test and the Kings failed, at home. No more excuses for a team that is supposed to take the next step. Where’s the Tylenol

Agree. Kings are supposed to have excellent top end talent. The star players were invisible tonight. The Kings didn't do anything on a 5-on-3 or the other PP. Well except for the one where Todd put out the 4th line and they actually scored. Our best players were not our best players and we took the L. Marchand, Pasta, McAvoy+Forbort, and Zacha were +2. Kopi, Kempe, Dewey, Mikey were -2 or worse.

Short sample but that is the gist of it vs good teams. Their top players very clearly outperform ours.

A couple of observations..

I don’t think the Bruins badly out played the kings, but Swayman and the goalposts certainly did.

This game was also lost by a 0-5 power play that only gained minimal traction when the game was already lost. The entire league has absolutely figured out our power play, and it’s name is Adrian kempe. I don’t think he’s had one open look for his one timer on a PP so far this season, and that’ll be textbook PK defending we should expect from every opponent the entire season. Teams will give everyone else a chance, so long as they nullify Juice.

Not much else to say about this one, as that about sums it up. They’ll get away with potting five against mediocre opponents like the wild or the jets, but they MUST capitalize on the PP to compete with upper echelon opponents like Vegas, Colorado, Bruins..
