If Clarke gets to 220 and keeps his speed and skill then he would be a monster.
 
Clarke skates like Durzi I think.. below average acceleration and an average top speed once he hits his stride.

Furthermore, while he does not have a size issue, I am pretty sure he does not have much of a physical component to his game, hence the cowering he did when Mark Stone shamed him in the preseason.

Cant see him taking Roys spot next yr. Not physical enough
 
Here is another angle, do you trade RFA Spence in the off season? What a problem to have. How to turn one of these solid RHD into a solid LHD of equal skill / value. Not that Englund has been bad.

Or...... do you play Spence on the left side with Roy, and play Gavi and Clarke ?

I think "Roy's Spot" next year might not be there regardless of what we might want.

Consider the following:
  • Next year we have several key pieces that need new contracts (Arvy, Byfield, Spence, Lizzo, Goalies, etc)
  • The AAV for both Gav & Mikey's contracts are both significantly big jumps from Roy's current contract (3.1 vs. 4.1 & 5.8)
  • Roy's performance has been and continues to be great, and the better he does the more other teams will be at the table come contract negotiation time.
I worry that Roy is pricing himself out of our price range unless the cap goes up significantly and he's open to a bridge.

Simply put if Roy has any self respect, we can't afford him. If he was at all versatile he could be moved to the left, but that die is cast and Englund is giving everything we need there at a heck of a discount.

There's nothing wrong with a player moving on, it happens, look at Amart and Forbort. The big thing to pay attention to is how many minutes and when they keep pushing Spence and Gav. The more Todd gets comfortable with that, the more you know Roy is playing for his next contract somewhere else.
 
I guess it’s better to lose Roy for nothing than to maximize the asset. He gives the Kings the best chance to win this year. Who cares if you lose him for nothing next year.

I hear you and agree wrt Roy. WRT Lizzo, with his UBI and JAD stepping in, can prob absorb his loss.

As much as I like Arvy also, he may be a casualty also.

Told my nephew in pre season, we need to keep Englund. That was a great add.

In this case yeah. When you’re playing to contend then letting a UFA walk for free is like the same as giving up assets for a rental. Only in this case you don’t get assets you could have had. Still, gotta push in the chips when it’s appropriate.
 
Maybe… maybe… trade a first and player and a prospect for a star at the deadline? Like a put all the chips in type of move?
 
Like my pipe dream, PLD, a first and Roy for Draisaital. Bring up Clarke and see what happens.
