Brandt Clarke is the top scoring defenceman in the AHL

I cant see Clarke in the A again next year, just wouldnt make sense. Gavy/Clarke could quickly become the best 2nd pair in the NHL next year. Just saying.

And, I still think Englund/Spence is among the best 3rd pair ... hard pressed to find any other team with a better suited 3rd paring.

Was not saying clarke sb in the A next yr. Meant that having him in the A this yr is a good prob to have going fwd.

Clarke remains the top scoring defenseman in the AHL with 6 goals and 23 assists. He is #7 overall in the league. He now leads the Reign both in points as well and in points/game. Sure looks as though this pick will pay off big time.

Speaking of AHL talent, Turcotte came back for a game after his most recent injury, but promptly went back out of the lineup. I’ve tried to browse for updates on his issues, but even the reign website doesn’t say anything. Anyone have any insight into what’s going on there? Is it recurring head injuries or is he dealing with something else over the last 10 or so games? Whatever the case, extremely disappointing because it looked like he was a regular producer for the reign, and their current slide has coincided with his absence

It seems Clarke has a Scott Niedermayer style to his game as a defenseman. An even better version of Durzi without the boneheaded, spur-of-the-moment errors that Durzi makes from time to time. When he eventually becomes a full-time member on the Kings roster, our team's offense will be much improved, especially on the PP. I look forward to it.

Have you been talking to Sam McMaster?
Pfft, need more beef.

The one he just came back from was a result of a hit to the head, so I assume a concussion. The current one is "lower body" and he's listed as day to day.

Clarke plays a style that’s closer to the modern high flying D-men in the NHL. Karlsson, Makar, Hughes. That’s the style. Not saying he’ll come close to what they do but those guys aren’t really similar to the way Niedermayer played. I’d say they’re all closer to Paul Coffey’s rover style.

I hope Clarke keeps his creativity and decisiveness once he get the call up. The Kings need that kind of player on the blue line, badly.

Coffey without the blazing skating speed is the comparison I hear most often. Looks like Rob found another good one! So… who goes when Clarke claims a roster spot? Seems to me the Kings would need to find a way to keep Roy.

It’s so tricky. I think the Kings will be worse off defensively without Roy in the short term, and will always miss his physicality, but 2-3 years from now and beyond the Kings will be in better shape with a younger Spence than an expensive Roy in his 30s.

After watching Spence getting steamrolled lately against the Isles, Rangers, VGKs and the Oilers, I respectfully disagree.
