Byfield

Just some stats for us Kings fans.

LA Kings (2020 2nd Overall Draft Pick) QB: 18GP, 4G - 12A = 16P +/- +11

NY Rangers (2019 2nd Overall Draft Pick KK: 18GP, 2G - 1A = 3P +/- +1

NY Rangers (2020 1st Overall Draft Pick AL: 18GP, 8G - 4A = 12P +/- +1

So far this year QB is outscoring and outplaying the Rangers 2019 2nd overall and their 2020 1st overall draft picks.
That’s a nice read for sure! But I’m sure someone soon will post the stats for Tim Stutzle and whine about why we didn’t pick him…

I'll eat crow all day! Early on he seemed to be a certifiable flop, but it seems I'm wrong (thankfully.)

Even though Byfield doesn't quite have the scoring touch I'd hope for he's a great playmaker and I'm sure he'll grow into his role even more.

I still wonder if he'll be transitioned into a center in the next few years or if he'll stick on wing. Time will tell.

Maybe a center once Kopi hangs em up.

Built like a Mack Truck...top tier skating...elite vision and passing...first one into the corners and comes out with the puck 90 percent of the time. Humble 'team first' attitude that isn't going anywhere but seeing an 'edge' starting to creep in with experience and confidence.

21 years old.

This kid starts to smell the back of the net a little better and he will be an absolute monster.

Blake's smartest move so far has been being patient with QB IMHO.

ps- He will be a center eventually.

Given PLD's disappointing performance to date, perhaps looming as #1 seed for replacing Kopitar.
Have to give PLD a little slack here IMO. He does some things very well, others meh and seems to float at times. He has few points, but look at his linemates. He played with Fiala, those two did not gel, and both were being outplayed by the rookie Laf. Also, his shooting percentage is one of the worst on the team along with Laf and Fiala. He has had a lot of good looks and could easily have another 4-5 goals and 4-5 points. Finally, he is on a new team with a new system. Give him time.

This is not to say that there are no situations where he can be better etc, just trying to point out that it is not all bad.

Outhustled by Laf perhaps, but Fiala was definitely not being outplayed by Laf. The thing that bothers me about PLD is the floating. Every now and then, though, he turns it on and dominates. If we could get full effort from him he'd be a beast. His point totals have been disappointing, but also not surprising given him lack of use in key situations (PP1) and lower average minutes per game then he has historically experienced in his career.

His shooting % this season is higher than his career average but Laf's 5.3% really hurts. I expect Laf will get it going though, as the season progresses, and PLD's point production will pick up steam once it does.

I ref PL reminding me of Jumbo in an earlier post. I hope that comes to fruition, but it truly seems he is in slow motion, or as u say, floating
